Hey Joel, lol toothpaste.
Wheels will likely go on next Saturday or as soon as the swap is done. Just need decent lug nuts, currently trawling the net for info, i think RdS is spot on with the Kics lugs, Rays lugs  have so many mixed reviews...
Rays wheels Rays lugs...?
No stress man the 330mm Suede Grinta with Nardi/Personal boss was $390 AUS shipped from the US (ouch)

Joel

Never know what you find on the floor. I looked under the seat when I got my car and found old toothpaste.
When are you putting the wheels on?
I love the steering wheel aswell. If you don't mind me asking, how much did it set you back?

RdS
cool progress. :) was a nice day today eh!

dont stress too much about the rust in the frunk there.. it doesnt look too bad. Dont go blaming the missing plug for doing that though! the way thats come down from the top corner, its just weeped brake fluid inside there some time in the last 20years!
the painful thing about that is, you wont even be able to easily cover-paint over it, as paint hates brake fluid.. so fixing it seems more work than its worth. id leave it, but keep an eye on it. unless you live by the beach, or overfill your brake fluid.. i doubt it will be getting that much worse any time soon. :)
as for the wheel arches, definitely give the car a thorough scrub and wash out that ledge on every arch. sucks about the rust bubble.. obviously the prev owner didnt was those arches too well. :(
a similar thing thats DEF worth doing on these cars, is clean out behind the front wheel arch liners, where they meet the side-skirt. it is a serious dirt-trap, and its always surprising.

hAPpY eAStER! Loving the long weekend can do Mr2 stuff!
Here's my AW in the workshop getting the 4age 20v Blacktop put in.

love the proportions and shapes of the AW (excuse the extreme cam perspective)

Original clutch and shagged clutch from the 20v - new clutch needed, Exedy, OSGiken???

Blacktop Power

Hooked up to the gearbox >

Aircon pipes in engine bay will be capped and aircon comp removed for cleaner install and weight saving

The tired 16v

20v has been sitting for a while, has lots of carbon build up, valves are not sealing and its losing comp
hopefully comes good after a clean... (please please please) or valve train rebuild... hello Toda Racing

You don't get to see it from this view everyday...

underside of frunk can see missing rubber plug and rust blisters...

Thats about it for now, time to get back to 20v valvetrain research... and harness/loom research pay a local auto elec to do it or use mr220v's service, combination of the 16v and 20v harnesses, 3weeks wait at around <$400? Cannot wait to finally drive her again!
Peace out!

Quick update:

Poor lil MK1 will be away for another 2-3weeks!
The carbon buildup in the old new / new old 4age 20v Blacktop was too severe despite being cleaned, the internals were pitted and it continued to lose comp... clearly had not done the said kms(lesson learnt buying secondhand engines...)  looking into suitable and streetable upgrades in the valevetrain department as it needs new: guides, shims, valves, springs etc... cams are okay and replacement parts will not be from Toda Racing (unless I find a lot of these... $$$$) Water pump, Timing belt are being replaced, Exedy clutch inbound and seeing the engine had been neglected and the head worn its only safe to think similar issues migrated the lower end, so it'll will be checked with bearings replaced etc just to be sure im not burning oil and crap when it finally gets turned over and sees the bitumen. ARP head bolts inbound along with full VRS gasket kit and finally the 16v/20v harnesses will be sent asap to mr220v for the plug and play solution - same length so ecu remains in the same spot! Phew... that's about it for now! Anyone have any hot tips?

If you're going to rebuild the bottom end you should ditch the black top rods & replace them with 4agze ones at least. The original rods will break up near the gudgeon pin if abused!

Cheers precisegrak, will look into that for sure, it needs to be strong! Has this happened to your 4age?

I had nearly finished assembling a 20V blacktop for my clubman car  when a customer told me of the rods that had broken in his race car.. After he showed me the damage, I stripped my engine and replaced them with the much beefier 4AGZE rods!

Or you could at least run the 20V Silvertop rods. They are a bit more beefy then the Blacktop, but not as heavy as the 4AGZE rods.

Thanks guys this is where im at, still hoping for the 2week turn around...
Cheers precisegrak for the intel would most definitely have missed this! Good insight
Mega cheers Knightrous! Thanks for attaching the image there's a clear difference the standard 20v blacktop rods look way to skinny by comparison! I agree Silvertop rods look good. Thank you.

Thinking I potentially owe you boys a beer

Having a hard time finding Silvertop or 4agze rods for that matter, some ready to purchase alternatives Ive found:

Brian Crower > Rods

Also of interest is this:
Brian Crower > Could stroke the 4age to 1.8...
http://www.briancrower.co...ota/4age_stroker.shtml
Has anyone done this to a 4age 20v blacktop in an AW11? Would love to hear about it? Wonder if it would be like a 1ZZ-FE or 2ZZ-FE purely in displacement terms and therefore given performance advantages of a 1.8 vs 1.6... (only curious) 5age?)

Anyone had experience with either or have done similar?
One step forward Two steps back, slowly but surely aye Cheers!

Yeeeeow!!! Project Kics Lugnuts arrived! Settled on black chrome R40's open ended. Really surprised by the quality, 40grms each for steel nuts! Surface treatment is spot on! 1st impressions are really good craftsmanship / quality +++

Heaps of room around the nut for unique removal tool!

That's it, still looking for more info re connecting rods, big end bearings etc etc etc Brian Crower so far for the win...
Cheers guys!
