Hey guys first post here,
 
I've got a '93 SW20 that has never revved past ~5,800 rpm for as long as I can remember.
The car drives fine otherwise and has never really proven to be an issue as it doesn't get driven hard often.
I have been looking for a solution on and off for a while now but I haven't had any luck, so I thought I'd ask you guys. 
The ECU has a powerchip sticker on it, I haven't opened it up to check if that's true or not but I wouldn't think a characteristic of that would be lowering the rev limit? Maybe i'm wrong.

The car drives perfectly smooth otherwise so I am really lost on what the issue could be.

I suggest getting another OEM ECU and seeing if anything changes.
These cars are very old now, and the ECUs are of the same generation as Windows 3.0.
If you have the budget, it's a good idea to upgrade to a modern tunable ECU and get it tuned professionally on a dyno.

I have had similar issues in the pass ( a while back) and the problem was the ignitor. See if you can get a known good one. You can use an ignitor from the Toyota Camry.

Hi lindsley,
What were the symptoms that you had, 
did the car drive fine until you got the ~5,800 rpm mark?
A ngk ignitor is around 60 dollars here so not too bad if it is the problem.

I have a couple of Celica ignitors here that you can try. They are likely compatible.
