Gday everyone
Currently considering swapping gen3 trubo struts(springs,shocks and tower) into my 1990 mr2 na (gen1) along with the later rear x member. Currently my understanding is that gen3's came with stiffer springs and bilstein shocks and ultimately gave a 1 inch lower stance.
Would the later struts bolt straight in or would i have to transplant the springs and shocks over to the gen1 struts ? 
If anyone has done this, i would love to hear some feedback on ride quality/ if they noticed any huge changes or had any major issues.

Yes, gen 3 struts bolt straight in. Sometimes the drop links can be slightly different between generations.
Bilstien shocks only came out in the JDM models AFAIA. Easy to tell as they all have welded glan nuts, and cannot be rebuilt unlike Australian models.
It's a great upgrade both handling and appearance if you ask me.

Three Gens, Generation 1 AW, Generation 2 SW, Generation 3 ZZ.
 
Dunno much about Gen 1 AW's, Gen 2 SW's have 5 'revisions', no idea at all about Gen3 ZZ's.

Correct, unfortunately most people refer them to their engines. Eg gen 3 engine (93 onwards). Really should be referencing their revisions.

Everyone on the fb market place seemed to talk revisions so i just followed suit

Yes confusion, but understandable since many MR2 articles use conflicting terms anyway.
We should probably try and keep reminding people the correct terminology anyway, even though we can sort of guess what they mean in most cases.
 
As I understand it, to avoid confusion if you are talking about the SW20:
The term Generation refers to engines - It should be used for engine parts only - not body parts.
E.G. SW20 engines = Gen 2, and Gen 3.   Gen 4 (BEAMS) was never sold in Aus but there are a few around.
The term Revision applies to year/model.  It is the correct term to use for body/chassis parts.
1989 - 99 SW20 = rev 1,2,3,4, and 5

I measured about a 3/4" drop after replacing my '90 model springs with post '92 springs on the stock struts.

Of course many other factors combine to affect handling, but on my own car after replacing my original '90 X-member with the later post '92 one, things I mainly noticed were better straight line tracking, especially on bumpy country roads. I also felt the car was more stable during high speed cornering. I also used OEM alignment specs.
Needless to say I ain't never goin' back to the old one.
 
BTW it goes straight in with nothing else needed so long as you get the the longer track rods with it, and the bearings are good. A rear alignment needed afterwards obviously.

Comprende, I had been doing it wrong.
 
Ok, lets educate the MR2 world and insist upon that ^ being the standard of what and how mr2's shall be categorised, because after all, it is correct.
 
Three 'marks' Mk1 AW, Mk2 SW, Mk3 ZZ.
 
Mk1 AW - how many 'revisions' does the Mk1 have?
 
Mk2 SW - Five Revisions, Rev1,2,3,4,5. Four Generations of engines (not counting n/a or turbo specific variants) Is four right?
 
Mk3 ZZ - anyone have OCD for these that knows all the details?
