As Reddtarga  states, there really shouldn't be anything wrong with genuine flexible hoses.
And they are made to fit properly with steel fixings. Legal too.

Awesome! I would love to know how that works out for you. The mid pipe cat definitely looked like an option to me, the only concern was I'd have to remove the flex joint, but haven't determined how much of an issue that would be. If you have any pictures as you progress with the experimenting I'd really appreciate it if you kept me in the loop.

Hey mate,

The guy doing my exhaust said where i wanted it was too tight (on the sump) so he has moved it onto the B pipe.

Here is his photo to explain haha:

Ah very interesting. With the way my dual exhaust splits off I don't think I'll have use of that space. Guess I'll need to visit an exhaust shop too then! Thanks for following up, hope it goes smoothly

Time for some shifter upgrades!

RacerX Shift Box
Prime Driven Shifter Cable Spherical Bushings
RacerX Bushing Spacers
Top Secret Aluminium Shift knob (not pictured)

Hoping all of these together will make the shifting feel a lot better, even though the stock shifter is pretty smooth to start with!
Will install this all in the coming weeks as Sydney gets dumped on with rain.

Ok so I got extremely lazy with updating this again, but as Lumix correctly noted, lots of new modifications!
They are primarily in the visual department this time, but I'm happy to say that the (visually) perfect MR2 I have been envisioning for years now has finally come to life.
My US Racing front lip and replica GReddy side skirts and rear spats were prepared and mounted to the car, before being removed and sent off to Champ Pandaeng for paint. If anyone is in the Sydney area I am one of many car enthusiasts to use his services and I can whole-heartedly recommend him for body panel painting. As of now he does not do full resprays. His instagram handle is @champpandaeng.
The parts were looking crispy and the car much meaner with its new additions, but I was not completely satisfied yet. The completion of my kit gave me the final kick I needed to finish refurbishing my BBS LMs, and after a gruelling weekend of polishing and final assembly, I was able to get them mounted with brand new Hankook Ventus RS4s.

Opting for 215/45 in the front and 245/40 in the rear, my sidewalls were now more evenly matched, and the grip provided by the new rubber was a significant step up from the RE003s, at least in my minimal testing.

It was at this point that my car was visually complete, and I was extremely excited to get out there and enjoy the fruits of my labour.

COVID-19 had other ideas.

While the car has been out and about for little errands here and there, it has essentially been on ice during this lockdown. I am taking the time to work on some modifications I've been saving for a time when I could have the car laid up for a while, but that will be included in the next update, pending their outcome.

Apart from the kit, I also did a bit of an interior refresh. This included a new Top Secret Shift knob, great for hot summer days and cold winter mornings.

The entire shifter assembly was replaced with a RacerX shifter assembly. For the most part it is a decent improvement in the ‘directness’ of the shift throws, however if I had not bought it on sale I may have a tough time seeing it as 100% worth the upgrade.

I also replaced my flimsy AFR gauge bracket with a piece of carbon plate. Adds a bit of flair to the interior but blends in nicely enough. I made sure to use plenty of precautions and hand tools only, so my lungs stay as fresh as can be.

Enjoy the few pictures I managed to grab before the lockdown, and I promise there is more to come once we all make it out the other side of this thing!
