I find I am continually forced to perform work down to a price. I've never met anyone willing to pay what quality work is worth.

Try the building game. Far less sheltered than automotive trade.
Haltech stated it was a very reasonable amount of money for a naverage job. If it wasn't 700 for a replacement loom I would have started again. So I'm learning something that isn't all that difficult. I guess that's a plus.

So I have watched a few videos, spoken to Haltech, studied for a few hours with a positive result of understanding the scenario.
Aside from reworking a lot of the harness I'm excited that it will be working correctly for the first time. It was basically a big aerial with all the wrong power supply to the wrong locations, wrong pin out for cam control, cam sensor. I now understand what's going on.
Next step is checking the smartwire system then it's ready for another chat between the ecu and engine then a decent start of the engine.

dennis the menace
Coming in late to the conversation (as usual) I have to agree with your comments about some of the "professional" workshops around.  Just ask Dave B . . .

There are a lot of 'practices ' who are being paid way too much money to get educated in a particular field.

It's been a while since updating the progress of this car.
Sadly, nothing positive came out of 2016.
The intake was a failure. It has proven not a solution so now it's going through legal channels to resolve it. Never use Custom plenum creations. He is a accountant with a cnc machine. I have found someone who has been building systems for a number of race cars(primarily BMW itb systems)who will be sorting out the intake system.
The wiring performed by the guy who has worked on a few other 2GR's on this forum performed utterly incompetent work. 70% was wrong. Caused a mountain of problems then denied responsibility. The list was endless. I spent 40+ hour's rewiring, repairing, re pin of connections. It's now fixed, programming has been sorted and now it runs but not correctly due to throttle bodies design.
The exhaust is really nice but not as per the spec but close enough for now.
While I'm sorting out these issues I have been sorting out a number of little jobs I have been leaving for a rainy day. It's looking a lot better.
The suspension is being reviewed by chassis sim who will be coming up with some improvements which will be in the same vein as Eric Hux mods.
Having the car in a decent workshop full time helps with getting it all sorted.
No actual date for tune but hopefully 2017!
