Sounds like you will be back to PI in the future!It will be a great track to experience. Another is the new extension on Morgan Park this year bringing the track to over 3km long. This will be worth going north to drive.
I appreciate what your saying that it is a big ask to have a MR2 manage a 1.46 at PI but its not impossible.
BIg horsepower helps but there is more to it that raw horsepower. In 2006 at the Shannons Nationals a MR2 with the following specs in the production car class managed a 1.58. The driver was a rental driver with minimal experience.
1150kg/98rwkw,7" and 8" yokohama semi slicks,full cage,no seam welding,proflex shocks,std swaybars. It for sale on www.my105.com.au .
You can run a MR2 in Production Sports (three power ro weight classes)at a much higher spec.
1050kg/200+rwkw,up to 40" of rubber,slicks,seam welding,lexan windows,ligtweight panels,aero aids will certainly knock quite some time of a basically std MR2 so it is possible. How likely is anyone's guess..
There are some quick MR2's around with quick times at Wakefield and Oran Park. Only a few seconds off the pace for Production sports Sb class so their is potential.
By the way, RX7 are the most sucessful Production sports car that has raced. When they show up, everyone takes a deep breath. Rick Shaw was running around PI last year in the mid 1.40. A quick car..
Have to wait and see.



Wow, 1.40 from Rick Shaw's rx7 is crazy fast. In the latest performance car of the year issue, Warren Luff peddled a 997 GT2 around in 1.41.....that rx7 is fasssttttt[:u]

He raced at the Wakefield 300 in November. I have footage on youtube od the car. Its a hell of a quick car. He was running around doing 1.04-1.05 all day quite easy.
It has a lot to do with set up as they run a power to weight formula, but simply amazing cars. I would love one if I could afford to run one.
The MR2 was worked on today. Its stripped back almost to a shell. Its on blocks with the wheels and brakes off. The sound deadner is being removed from the wheel arches so I can seam weld throughout
almost done and on the hottest day of the year!
I found out a few thing about the car today. 315mm rear rotors which are light weight. The orginal caliper with a spacer have been used. It also has the ball joint spacer to suit the ride height it runs at.
IT has Tein Flex coilovers.
No accident damage by the look of it which is a good thing

Should be welding by next week

The brake spacer is a very simple system which must be an aftermarket 'off the shelf' item as it has SW20 imprinted on it.
The disc is vented below the line of the disc which contacts the pad. It is a light disc.Half the weight of the front one. I have a set of old wilwood calipers from a sprintcar which line up nicely with the existing holes, so I may fit these to the car.These are also half the weight of the std calipers. I wont be able to run the handbrake but thats not a real concern to me as its a weight saving and I can run a hydraulic system if need be.

i have the same brackets if your rear discs are actually 323mm.

it's a rx8 "sport" front disc.

i have pics of a hydraulic handbrake setup using the std front cable if your interested in doing that. thats my plan but still to use the std caliper at this stage (sick of stretched cables and poor performing handbrake in general)

The only prob with hydraulic hand-brake is over night it will lose pressure as the oil pushes back into the master cylinder so please remember this.

Thanks for the tip on the brakes. I will probably run without a handbrake for the time being as its track only.

Finally found time to pick up a welder and start the seam welding. Not the most fun job in the world.If I had the money I would have stripped it bare and had the car bead blasted or dipped due sound deadner. I removed plenty but you just can't get it all, then as soon as there is a small amount of heat it starts smoking then lights up!!
The welding will be finished over the weekend then the cleaning of the welds then some etch prime to stop rust.
It will be off to Bonds Rollbar soon to have the cage sorted.
Should be ready in a few months..
