The handling is getting better on my car front sway bar pretty much dialled in now just need to go for a run and confirm. I wanted to go up the putty last Saturday but with the rain it was not worth it.

I will have link pins made 10mm longer and that will give me the compensation i need
Phil

I think it is McCulla. I will have a look later tonight. They are at Alexandria.
I will fabricating my own links for mine. Its not that hard a job.
What size bar are you be using?
Tonight would be good for a run up the Putty rd. Still cool air, quiet Monday night and its dry!
Enjoy mate

There's a "race" SW20T on slicks that was circulating about 1:55 last time I was at PI (which was 2007)
Stock AW11s/c on R specs does 2:05ish (hand timed)

The island is a spectacular track.

I expected a race spec MR2 to be a lot quicker to be honest. Somewhere around a 1.46 is where I expected one to be. Check these times http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results.cgi?23/11/2008.PHIL.Q5
Production sports Sb start from 1.43 to a 1.50 which is where it needs to be.
Have to wait and see.

Not knowing anything about this car other than what I could see (slicks, cage, stripped interior) can't really say whether it was on the pace. It was in a group with GT3s so was not that slow. 1:46 puts you on par with Ric Shaw in his Rx7 (presumably an FD SP) and a spit behind Carrera cup cars, which is a fearsome pace in my book [:I] Would be nice to see an MR2 up there

1.55 is a respectable time in anyones book but I feel they have the potential to be quicker.
Fearsome pace.. I like that saying and you are very true in saying that, but I do beleive a MR2 turbo can get up there.
A suspension spceialist who worked on MR2's in the nineties stated the best was to go quick was proflex or bistein shocks, correct spring rates, sway bars and time to tune it in.
You can pick up numerous seconds with this set up but as expected it is a substancial investment for your MR2.

It would be great to see some incar footage from this car at the island.

The 'MX5 Mania' was also as quick as the Rick Shaw RX7 at the Wakefield 300 with both hovering around 1.04-1.06. That was basically just short of GT3/development series Supercar times there. Mazda makes a seriously great racecar.

I just did a PI track day in my series 8 fd rx7. The car is completely stock except for semi slicks. I did a 1.58. I think 1.46 is a bit unrealistic for an mr2. There was a full race car evo 7 doing that time, but it was probably pushing 500hp+. There was also a few gtr with heaps of power which just got below 1.50. Phillip Island is an amazing track, it's intoxicating. My fd flowed so bloody well through it, i was so happy Can't wait to get back there with an exhaust and power fc

Sounds like you will be back to PI in the future! It will be a great track to experience. Another is the new extension on Morgan Park this year bringing the track to over 3km long. This will be worth going north to drive.
I appreciate what your saying that it is a big ask to have a MR2 manage a 1.46 at PI but its not impossible.
BIg horsepower helps but there is more to it that raw horsepower. In 2006 at the Shannons Nationals a MR2 with the following specs in the production car class managed a 1.58. The driver was a rental driver with minimal experience.
1150kg/98rwkw,7" and 8" yokohama semi slicks,full cage,no seam welding,proflex shocks,std swaybars. It for sale on www.my105.com.au .
You can run a MR2 in Production Sports (three power ro weight classes)at a much higher spec.
1050kg/200+rwkw,up to 40" of rubber, slicks, seam welding, lexan windows, ligtweight panels, aero aids will certainly knock quite some time of a basically std MR2 so it is possible. How likely is anyone's guess..
There are some quick MR2's around with quick times at Wakefield and Oran Park. Only a few seconds off the pace for Production sports Sb class so their is potential.
By the way, RX7 are the most sucessful Production sports car that has raced. When they show up, everyone takes a deep breath. Rick Shaw was running around PI last year in the mid 1.40. A quick car..
Have to wait and see.

I was at EC today enquiring about putting on an event there. The fee's are shocking. Your looking at $10,000 to put on a event at EC for one day!!Then there's the $3700+ kicker for CAMS to sanction the event.
When they are money grabbing like this its no wonder entry fee's are high..

yeah but to go to private practice there its cheaper than wakefield.
