I was looking at that option as I have done it before.
I did all that with the Celica. A little about the Celica ST162 It had a fresh engine with 145psi without the turbo set up. The engine had about 110kw.
Chassis Seam welded, eurethene bushes throughout, every scrap of steel removed which isn't used, lightened the bonnet, doors,light weight race seat, 5 point harness, light weight rims, GT4 brakes, dbr slotted discs, braided lines, dot 5 fluid, new bearings , semi's 205/50/15.
I keep note of all weight removal and came up with 220kg so I guess it was around the 850kg mark, with a total cost of the project at $5500. Cheap and it rendered results on it one and only outing before selling it to a Kiwi an hour out of Melbourne.
I beat a CV8, Audi TT, Renault Megane, S14 and more. I was 21 out of 42 with a 1.15 at Wakefield Park. Its on Natsoft.
