This morning I decided I would cut the holes required in the carpet for the speaker and port holes. I started on the passenger side, and it all went well.

Went to the driver side, the body is different and won't accept the sub box. I had thought the body had the cut outs and mounting holes on both sides but it appears not.

It's left me with two options;
1. Use only the passenger side sub, which leaves me with an extra sub and box.
2. Find a wrecked LHD MR2 overseas, get them to cut the frame out and weld it into mine.

Nikayla, does your car have the body cutouts on both the driver and passenger side?
I'm thinking that part of the body may have been changed as part of the late 92 upgrades. Which means I should be able to source that panel in Australia.

I will check mine and get back to you on this one, I hope mine has both as it will make it a lot easier to do what I wanted to do.

I got a start on the sub installation tonight.

I removed the OEM wiring from both boxes and starting making the new harness (so to speak) for the inside of the box.
The connectors I bought from Jaycar required the holes in the sub boxes to be modified slightly. You'll notice for some reason the OEM electrical connectors are significantly different between sides.

After a little cutting and filing the new connectors sit inside the original holes, I'll just need to glue the connectors in once I'm happy with it all.

The Polk Audio MW5530 woofers installed into the sub housing with zero modifications required which makes it a much simpler upgrade compared to the Tang Bands.

The last pic shows how much room is there for the upgraded wiring and the larger connector.

Initial thoughts on performance are hopeful. You're never going to be popping windscreens out with 5 1/4 inch subs but these little things seem to perform very well for their size. I still need to make more adjustments at the amp but it's actually left me thinking I won't bother with the drivers side for now and just see how this goes. I think I'll be better off spending my time and money trying to lower the cabin noise, that also leaves me retaining the OEM storage box on the drivers side which is perfect for the targa bags.

Thanks To Eddie spotting it on FB and letting me know I now have 1 factory sub box with a TB sub already fitted and the factory grill on its way.
I picked it up off Brian from WA who's very nice looking 94 turbo hardtop had met an unfortunate end

Well at least parts from his car will live on amongst the community.

My door belt moulding came from Brian as well.

I believe he is the same guy removing the enclosure panel for me also. I saw the ad with the D/S sub and jumped on him.
