What do you mean by everything is complete. I dare say I could think of more things to do, you have to say enough is enough at some stage though. I've not done any sums as of late but im guessing in the realm of $40-45000 after purchase of the car, which cost me $20000.

And yes, I did the majority of the work myself. Only thing I didn't do was assemble the bare long block. I'd have had to of done two of them and felt I wouldn't have had the time - well, with the time it took for this long engine to get here, I could have built 10 engines - oh well. Done everything from bodywork, to rebuilding the transmission to removal and fitment of engine on two cars. Im no professional mechanic, im an electrician (well, almost). I'm rather cluey and pick up quickly so have no issues doing this stuff. Its merely turning spanners - doesn't require rocket science and I've had enough experience with 3S-GTEs to know what im doing in regards to them.

Insuring the car full comprehensive would be stupidity. I doubt anyone would offer me an agreed value anywhere near the amount of dollars I've spent on it, which means in the event of an accident if it was written off they then take possession of the wreck. It'd be more in my favour if it was written off and I could keep the wreck, purchase a new chassis and transplant the gear - thats where all the money is at.

I find insurance stupid in the event of a minor bingle. The excess + the raise in premium always seems to outweigh any small amount of damage done. You're better off putting away that money you'd normally pay to them and insuring yourself.

To answer your question - no, im not over 25. I'm only 22. :D

Transmission is almost all done.

All that remains is to refit 5th gear and the top casing.

Well, the transmission is FINALLY together, all done, whoot.

Also I've had the car back at my place for the last week or so, however, im still not completely happy with the paint finish, infact, after a wash and inspection today I've got a list 3 pages wrong of faults I can find.

I'm personally pretty sick of screwing around with it, so at this stage I'm considering just paying a shop to complete the job. Most of it will just need a light rub back flat and another hit of clear, with a couple of panels that'll require a quick hit of black base (I still got a bit leftover) and a couple of coats of clear.

Issue with that is time. Spray shops always seem to be booked up months ahead. Oh, and cash, I don't have a huge amount (could probably spare $1000-1500, which honestly, for the remaining work SHOULD be enough). If anyone knows any shops that do quality work & could fit a job in in a timely manner and are located anywhere between say Caloundra & Surfers or as far out as Toowoomba (closer to me is better though and im at Gailes) give me a yell. Im more then happy to pay someone a cash jobbie for a weekend job or something. I just need someone with the facilities, equipment and skill to get it right.

Anyway, couple of pictures as she sits. Looks good at a distance, too bad im pretty pedantic and spot every defect.

Ryan from these forums has volunteered his time to help me out but I don't know if I want to embroil anyone else in this bundle of joy [:u]

James,
Can't wait to see your car when finished. It's been a long time coming but will be worth it. Perhaps on 8th at W'hoe?
Just a question. I notice from latest photos you have taken off the front fresh air plenum cover (at base of windscreen).
I've just sustained a cracked windscreen and am wondering if there is a way of removing the black plugs (Without damaging them; I want to keep my car and trim as original as possible) that conceal the screws that hold the cover on. If you have technique I'll remove cover before taking in to get new windscreen. Also do the trim bits (the plasticky beading surrounding the screen) surrounding the screen come off easily and can they be refitted?
cheers

i wouldn't worry about the paint man as once its on the road it will more likely will get stone chips etc etc.
i work at smash repair as car detailer in canberra now .. the job i do is lightly sand back any little blemishes on new paint on anywhere on car and then buff it then clean the whole car andwash it before giving it back to customers

This sure is one hell of a project by the look of it. But its as though you'll have a brand spanking new SW20 when its finished.
and with your goals of performance, sounds like nothing under 100k will keep up with you anyway.
