I just asked 'Enthusiast Underwriting' a question about driving my MR2 to work (very occasionally) and if I would be covered under 'Recreational Use'. Here's the response I got:
Josh,

Yes you are. We are a practical outfit and understand there are always occasional exceptions that need to be made. In any event if something does crop up all you need to do is email me and unless it's really silly, I'll do my best to accommodate it. I can cover your vehicle regardless of how often it's used so if you need to use it daily for while we can convert it over and when things get back to normal we can revert to twice weekly. My job is to provide cover to suit your lifestyle.

Steve

NRMA are slack - I did an online quote last friday and still haven't had anything back. Enthusiast underwriting replied within an hour. Anyway NRMA wont insure me with Classic car insurance according to their policy, as I haven't had full comp claim free for at least 5 years.

Ive emailed that enthusiastic insurer lets see what they come back with. Im not concerned about the premium, please dont take that the wrong way.

Im more concerned the agreed value and the right to chose my own repairer as its not the run of the mill paint and needs a specialized shop.

Problem is here in Australia we cant insure cars for what we want even after proof of all the money spent.

With my other car BMW which only had a book value of $9,000 Shannons insured me for $29,000.

BTW i live around the corner from shannons so they can see the car every year and check the mileage and i never had the insured value decreased as it remained mint

Lets see what they come up with ?

NRMA gives choice of repairer and my agreed value too. They also dont charge excess if your car is damaged when its parked for vandalism or malicious damage etc.
