Is it from the heat shield. Also it sounds it's coming from the manifold I think.
Anyone has similar problem.
 
The noise was from the timing belt area. so i got Toyota timing belt kit and new water pump while i'm there.
the old belt was Gate and pretty bad condition don't have history on how old it is car don 190k with service book that i cant see when it was done. so the   TENSIONER ASSY was lose and old. and that was making the rattle noise that was killing me.
if any one wants photos of the old belts and   TENSIONERS i can put them up. and below are the part number from Toyota

Check your exhaust brackets for any cracks. Sounds like something is vibrating, if its a leek from the exhaust manifold you should be able to see black carbon from where it is leaking from. Sounds more like broken exhaust bracket or heat shield.

I just fitted a used Fujitsu exhaust. and told the exhaust shop to check what the sound is. and they had no idea. I asked them could it be the heat shield, then they said they have to take the b pipe down and see. But I didn't have time.
After the track day months ago it also sounds like the is a hole some where and it's getting louder and louder.
The sound been there before I fitted the exhaust.

Well I have changed the b-pipe and no heat shield. And the noise is still there. It's doing my heading. I think the noise is coming from the timing cover area. Still not sure and few ppl looked at it and they not sure too.

Is the exhaust new? Check for cracks

Just changed the exhaust too and it's still there. Driving me crazy. The car drives fine. Thinking the timing belt balancer ??

That may indicate the noise could be from something other than the new exhaust.
 
You mentioned it seems to be coming from the timing cover area.
The belt may be 'walking' due to shot tensioner roller bearings etc.)
 
You may be able to undo the top timing cover bolts enough to check the belt condition.
Pic shows 2 types used on gen 2 NA's, and they are secured by 5 bolts.(One is in the black hole lower bottom right)
Early Gen2 NA's had a spring type tensioner, but later Gen2 NA'S had a hydraulic tensioner.
Top cover in the pic  goes with the spring type tensioner, and the bottom one goes with the hydraulic.
 

 
 

I didn't have time to figure how to take Te cover off as there was more things to undo. But does the belt look ok.

The belt looks like it is sitting a little too far in towards the motor.
 
The outside edge of the belt seems ok in the pic, but is there any damage on the the inside edge?
Can you run the motor and watch the belt for walking, or any sign of rubbing?
You may not have to completely remove the cam cover but would have to fasten it so it doesn't touch anything for the test.
The top cover is a PITA to get off completely with the motor in the car, but it can be done. 
 
 
 
 

well that what i thought when i look at the belt. i have to get my brother with me and take it apart again and get him to start and rev the car and see if that's  where the noise is coming from. look at you tube last night there are ppl have the same problem and fare amount of ppl still say its from under the timing belt cover, something loose.
