Need some help as to what this could be and what I'll need to do to fix it. Cheers

Syncro is often the issue on a 20+ year old gearbox. Rebuild $$$$zzzz

The cheaper option if you don't want to spend $$$ now is the double clutch, rev match thing. I taught myself how to. It just becomes 2nd nature after a little while. Also I found having gear oil changed to MT90 helped too.

That and a clutch fluid and bleed won't hurt.

do the simple stuff first before you even think about a gebox rebuild- check all the bearings etc at each end of the shifter cables (deltav do a kit), there are lots of posts on this topic if you search the forums. tired engine/gearbox mounts can also attribute to shifting issues

Try ATF in the box, can often work depending how bad synchros are. As above first check clutch is disengaging fully.

Edit. The resistance dissappears as the car gets warm and then it starts to shift smoothly could this be cluch related

Sounds more lubrication related if the function changes between cold and warm.

I'd change fluids and bleed the clutch. Both easy to do and will help either identify or rule out options.

What do you mean by stiff? There should be constant resistance as you push on the pedal.
