Congrats on tackling the job.

BTW, it was mentioned that it was 'pretty gunged up'
Can be caused by a leaking cam cover gasket, when the oil drips down and into the alternator.

Take a look here Pete :
http://jp-carparts.com/toyota/partlist.php?maker=toyota&type=211120&cartype=5&fig=1903

If your car is prior to 11/92, it's 27060-74330

If it's from 11/92 on, it's 27060-74440

I've got a 1990 turbo.  Lithia Toyota quotes the Alternator part number as 270607418084 and it's only USD 211 (plus delivery) vs jp-carparts.com part number 27060-74330 which equates to over USD 1,500 (plus delivery).

Can anyone shed any light on the correct part number?  Maybe I'm just reading something wrong?  The Lithia link is below.

Thanks for any and all help with the part number.

Cheers
Colin

Oh Crap, I forgot to update what happened.
My son pulled the alternator out from underneath (I think it may have to go upwards a bit first) - 30 mins.
Pulled the brushes out - 10 mins - took them to the Toyota dealer who did all the partnumber work.
Next day new brushes  - installed into the alternator - 10 mins - then 30 mins fiddling to replace the alternator,
which was fiddly trying to line the holes up etc, 2 man job had it quickly  sorted. All up cost $15.
My son seems to be winning at each of the tasks I give him.
He just pulled the driver's seat out and got stuck into reconditioning the leather - looks great now - all the white wear marks are blacked again.
