most green coolants contain silicates and borates that will eat water pump seals etc.
so Go for Genuine LLC or Nulon OAT type (red) coolant.

what ever you do NOT ever mix red and green coolants, it will turn to sludge in your system.

Why? Because MR2 Trackday Challenge 2014. Just missing an oil cooler and metal sheeting for front undertray. Next stop, workshop!

Re my erratic temp gauge:

I checked Amayama and it's $55 for a new water temp gauge which is great except it's discontinued...so I decided to open the damn thing and maybe try to fix it myself, even there was no hope of doing that myself as I'd have to spend ages winding and counting the amount of wire to coil around it. However, this thing fell out!

Looks like maybe a piece of soldering that was dislodged and moving about possibly shorting the wire coils. Put it back together and 2 readings (resistance) come up instead of 1. Still missing one (3) but it's an improvement.

NB! When putting it back together make sure the needle is put back in the exact same point it was sitting, otherwise it's not "calibrated properly", eg I put it in the centre when it was cold so my temp gauge went from centre (warm) when it was cold to hot/overheating when it was warm...

So then I had to disassemble just the needle, plugged the cluster in, let the gauge "re-calibrate" itself to cold (engine was cold) without the needle, then stick the needle in. Voila!
It was a long shot but I tried to check the resistance values again and to my benediction, I got all 3 values!!! :D :D
Keeps getting better and better if problems keep solving themselves, I'd be completed by mid next week for MTC with maybe even 1-2 days to relax!!

Not sure I can do them in time as the aesthetics is least of my worries but will try! I think just glue it or mould some filler/fibreglass?

oil press, oil temp and vacuum for moar ****y lights and needles haha. well vacuum supposed to indicate general engine condition and can be used to increase fuel economy since it is effectively a function of fuel economy. Did I word that right?
Edit: increase fuel economy by monitoring the needle for lean burn during cruise

Knightrous
If you want to monitor fuel economy and general performance, get a wideband O2 sensor and gauge. They are great for advising how good or bad your fueling is and a great diagnostic tool (ie: driving along, accelerate and the car bucks and stumbles, AFR gauge says 18:1, you know you've got lean out fueling problems!).

Looking forward to smashing the BEAMS! again out there on the track ;)
