Hi everyone. This will be my first post in this forum site and 'HELP - URGENT' category.
I have a MR2_W30 Spyder '01. With SMT transmission.
 
First of all I have already refilled my oil tank. I'am still getting readings of different heat temperature levels during my trips. Between mid-point and top-point, sometimes even reaching top-point.
I thought when I gain momentum (up-shifting) temperatures increase, and during consistent speeds temperatures decrease. Though I'am not sure.
 
Any accurate thoughts please would be highly appreciated. Although I'am yet to book-in a Toyota check-up, I'd like some ideas:)
I must say that I'm not much of a **gearhead** but I try to understand my MR2 since I do love it.

Have you checked your coolant levels?

What state are you in?  Water temperatures rising under load and returning to normal when coasting usually suggests blockage/insufficient water flow around the car.
 
 

Generic advice for all cars with what you describe is change the thermostat, cheap part (usually less than $50 even for a hiflow from a local auto store). This will lead onto, when was the last time you flush/changed your systems coolant for new coolant, maybe a time to spend $100 to do both.

I did that 'coolant fluid' change along with other general maintenance tasks. 
All those tasks just over and only 4 months ago which makes anyone wonder -- "why another change/refill so soon?..".
 
I have a booked-in inspection with Toyota this Friday (AEDT).
I'm starting to obtain some fairly convincing responses and ideas. Thanks alot.

Well yes, while im coasting it seems temperatures do settle back to mid-point or just below. When I'm gaining once again the engine heats up suddenly. I'll note your idea, it does potentially sound right. Water Flow being restricted to run it's course for cooling purposes isn't good. 
The MR2 is taking a break till my inspection later this week.

Thermostat, got it. My workmate did mention that part too.. considering he was actually a mechanical engineer.
It's good to know that some vital parts can actually be cheap:D. A coolant fluid change may have to be looked upon too, but it seems too soon. My major maintenance episode was JUST over 4 months ago..
I got an inspection this week. Fingers crossed man.  

Remember the completely bleed the coolant system correctly or you will end up with the same issue.
