Let's say your turbo decided to lock up on you. Your budget is by no means healthy but you don't want to just put a ct26 back in, what would you do?

Just go the ct20b or look bigger and better? What other options are out there?

This car is a garage Queen so waiting on parts is no issue.

Thanks guys

I would consider an ATS 3071WG kit. Will bolt straight in with all your existing parts and perform almost like an external wastegate GT3071R

Too many variable for a simple text whats a good turbo.  Turbos need to match airflow needed for the engine.

Is your turbo dead?

If your turbos dead. CT26 or CT20 or CT27, designed by research and development flow/turbo engineers, all perfect for a stock motor with a little extra boost (up to 10-14psi).  I have a highflow ct26 for sale in a couple of weeks once back from the turbo shop (I have two high flows both getting done - need money for an engine build).

If you want more power, it comes down to supporting mods, where in rpm you will drive the car, and yes $$$$-$$,$$$z.  Boost alone does not create more power or a sustainable engine.

If you are after funny talk, yeh get a borg warner turbo $4K, manifold $1.5k - but then you cant use it for what it can do without a $1K intake manifold, $2K fuel set up, $1k cams, $1k valve springs / shimless set up, $2k cooling, $1k ceramic coating, $1k service items, $4k ECU and tune, thats assuming you already have a forged motor and other aspects done.

Ct20b all the way. Direct bolt on too.

I have a gt3071 top mount turbo kit for $2500. 3inch dump, tial external gate with screamer pipe, all ceramic coated and aeroquip water and oil lines.

The turbo runs a t2 housing so it's been converted to EW. The kit was put together a year or two ago but never used. Ive had the setup verified at my local Garrett dealer as genuine and unused too.

To put that in perspective you'd be looking at $3500 after shipping and tax for a 3071 kit from ATS and that's using the stock manifold!

3071 or borg warner s252 is generally seen as the best turbos you can get across many different makes if you want to push in to the 300whp area (RB25/6, RB20, 3SGTE, even K20 turbo setups they're not uncommon).

But all things being equal and not going crazy I'd either find another ct26 that wasnt dead (you can find them all the time for like $200), hi-flow a ct26, or get a CT20B.

On a tight budget if i couldnt find a decent ct20b, id grab a gt2560 from an sr20. Can buy adapters to make it fit. Spools quicker thana ct26 with more topend.

Thanks guys, really appreciate all the advice.

Today I signed the papers to put it on club plates so figured seems I'm not paying stupid money on rego anymore I may as well look at doing some upgrades.

Obviously I'm basically clueless in where to go from here so just seeing what someone else in a similar position would do.

And yeah the turbo wheel is ceased apparently.

Ideally I wouldn't be doing any of this work and I could keep putting pennies away for the TRD kit, but such is life
