Hey guys, I'm keen to do my first "mod" on the car. I only really want to do pretty minor stuff and i thought it would be possible to find some better looking lenses especially for the indicators. Smoked would be preferable, but clear is ok. Just as long as it is all 100% legit. I wouldn't mind upgrading the bulbs to LED either...

What can you tell me!?

Oh yeah, i have a '95 Bathurst edition and i live in Victoria...

Well i just signed up to that website, so i cant see the page yet...
But I Don't see why it wouldn't be possible to go for something like this;

It's DOT and SAE approved so shouldn't that be enough???

sorry i thought u meant replacing the rear tail lights.

I went clear front ones from UK, i dont see an issue with replacing them as long as the indicators and lights are still visible from the same distance. But if you want be sure just check with VICRoads.

its an wasy modication, just be careful i have heard of some units falling out as the fits isn't perfect

Yeah, I had clear ones, one of them popped out after taking a big bump, but I've had smoked ones for about 5 years with no issues. Might need to change to orange blinkers so it does blink orange (for NSW anyway).

AFAIK the 'smoked' lenses are not '100% legit'. Clear lens with correct colour bulb inside yes, like the later model clear ones.

The toyota ones are the best fit strangely, and they wont pop out.

You'd probably do ok with the ones you posted the link to, they have a very subtle smoke tint but some dudes go over the top and make taillights and indicators black. They bring themselves under notice of cops, who then take a closer look at the car and see more.

Hmmm ok... well I was considering getting some of the smoked side indicators too, butyou think that they may be unlawful? Does anyone have a picture of these on the car? I don't want over the top, the reason I was going smoked was to be subtle...

Check out my showroom thread...I've got the smoked front indicators and smoked side indicators. I've been pulled over for random breath test and the cop commented how clean the car looked...so no dramas up here in NT. http://www.mr2australia.c...px?m=47253&mpage=1

... there's so many cops out there with different ideas and different levels of, um, 'motivation??' when it comes to ADR's and modded cars.

Many times I have heard tales of some general duties cop going nuts with defects on a car that really wasn't too bad, or some highway patrol cop with a chip on his shoulder writing out the big blue sheet with any little thing they feel isn't right.

That or the cop giving the nod of approval to sensible street mods that are cool and safe. Less obvious attention on the outside is a good thing. I can't see you'd get in trouble for slightly smoked lights (definately not headlights!) but the darker you go the more chance you have. Then the engine lid comes up, then there's the pod, then there's the a pillar gauges, then there's the ground clearance....
