My SW20 came with Minerva F105 205/45/17 on the back and Neuton NT5000 205/45/17 on the front. All tyres are quite new. I understand that they are not top end tyres but the reviews on the web are reasonably complimentary. They handle fantastic in the dry. In the wet I am getting aquaplaning at about 70kmh which is not a nice feeling.
 
What are your thoughts? Is it the rubber causing the aquaplaning or possibly the setup?
 
I want to sort something out before winter as it is my daily drive.

Sw's are designed to run with a staggered setup.

Without going to see, I think my na has 195 fronts and 215 rears.

I did experience aqauaplaning not long after getting the car but that was only due to the inside edges being worn out.

Keep in mind there isnt much weight at all in the front of these cars to keep the front down.

Majority of us use directional tyres as well.

Check your tyre pressues, if you're running them too low, that increases the occurance of aqua planing. If your pressures are fine and they all have decent tread (all the way round, not just in the centre) it'll be your tyres more than the set up.
 
Cheap tyres usually don't have fantastic water channels to dissipate the water quickly enough.

If they have decent tread aquaplaning at 70kmh seems a bit odd, even for lower end tyres.  Are they directional and fitted the wrong way?

Usually with narrower tyres, like you've got, should be less prone to aquaplaning. Either way those tyres sound pretty cheap and nasty, so I'd be changing them for something better for the sake of your own life and safety.

Thanks for the information. I will start by inspecting the tyre pressures and check if the tyres are directional and if so look at how they are fitted. If these actions prove unsuccessful possibly sounds like new rubber.

I ended up getting new rubber and an alignment. Driving sweet as now  :)
