Thought I'd start a thread to keep track of progress for one of my mr2's.
Its a 1991 GT turbo, not running, but a perfect project for me to restore to its former glory.

It runs but I think its dropped a piston.... will have to wait a week or so before I put it out & strip it.
Heres a few pics of it as is.

Will keep it updated on my progress.

Prepped ready to be worked on.  Steamed cleaned entire engine bay & underneath prior to engine removal... I hate working on greasy engines etc..

Oil / greased up badly - oil everywhere.

After pressure wash :-)... now its ready.

Ok, So I got a bit more done on Sunday,
Here's what I found:

Started stripping it down..

Pistons, bores etc all look ok at this point.

Then I found this on the oil pick up... looks like crank / main bearing bits & pieces.

What do you know.... here was the problem was causing the major knock when running. Piston No: 1 main bearing was no where to be found.

Close up shot... Pretty scored alright, will take to machine shop & see if it can be machined oversize.. if not, up for another crank..

Just a few hot spots on the flywheel.

While I wait for parts, a lot of degreasing to be done.

Parts ordering time :-)

Small progress:

Well as you know, I was in the need of yet another 3sgte crank, it seems a lot of people spin bearing on these engines... not sure how, maybe too low oil.. I've have many over my time & never had an issue?? Who knows.

So luckily I managed to find a second hand good condition block, with original crank, rods & pistons :-)

Pulled it down, crank was perfect, just a quick linish & it was ready to install.  (STD size also).

Whilst going thru the old engine components, I stumbled across No. 4 piston... I thinks its buggered!

This was the original con rod from Piston No. 1, you can see its a throw away from the wear on the edging where the shell bearings sit.

Good condition replacement rod I salvaged from the S/H block I picked up. (This was a huge bonus).

Full gasket kit, main & rod bearings, piston rings arrived.

Block machined & honed.

Pistons, rods, bearings etc all installed, not far now.

In the mean time, flywheel & head are being machined, faced, etc.

More to come!

I do enjoy the comedic commentary!
Good to see its all working out for you. Was the doner block from a Celica?

Whist waiting for the final parts to arrive back from the machine shop, I've prepped a few bits to tidy it up.
A couple of coats of etching primer, follow by 3 coats of heat proof enamel.
