Hey,
 
Does anyone know someone who will do a service on my aircon compressor (oils and seals) in Ballarat/Geelong/Melbourne.
 
Everyone I've rang has either said no or just buy a new one.

I doubt that you would find anyone that would. There isnt oil in the compressor per se, it circulates in the system with the gas, so its not really something that gets changed, but something that gets added to or toped up when an item is serviced.

Same with the seals, the only servicable seals are the o rings fitted to the connection points of the pipes, which most people wont change unless the system is disassembled for repair, and even then they will be only done if it is leaking, or at the point where it is disconnected.

With an A/C system as old as the one on an SW20, most people dont want to disturb a functioning system, as the chances that disturbing it will cause issues is too great.

Furthermore, most A/C service places have more work than they can handle at this time of year, so your enquiry is probably being taken as a low priority.

Alright, is there a way to test my compressor for leaks?
 
It is already out of the car and hasn't worked since the car was imported (or before)

Normal way is to regas the system and add dye that can be seen with special googles at leak points.
 
With many early sdubs the A/C systems are often shot, and can be expensive to fix.
When I bought my '90 model, my system had leaks everywhere and I ended up replacing just about everything with new parts, because I was told it was the cheaper option rather than to try and patch up the old stuff.
Now over 10 years later, I'm glad that I bit the bullet and paid the money because the A/C still works fantastic.

Alright, where did you get all the parts?
 
I can do the install then have it gassed at a shop. Would like to get the compressor asap so I can start putting the turbo back in too.

The A/C tech got the parts and the install, but I think he has now retired.

Just had all this done in Sydney, so can't help, but re the dye that reveals any leaks, my guy shone a UV torch and showed me the old compressor was leaking = it's green under the UV. He says the "new" gas can be a problem for the old compressor seals and the rubber hoses.
He gave me new compressor (exchange), 2 new rubber hoses at the compressor, and a new receiver/drier up the front and regassed for $700 cash. It all works.

I have the A/C compressor from my GEN 3 turbo. I'm in Melbourne if you're interested. I'm fairly sure they all use the same compressors. Have the pully, belt and all too.

Thanks mate, but then Im really in the same spot. A second hand compressor that I don't know if it leaks haha.
 
I'll just put mine in and do the dye test and go from there.
