Christmas gift from my baby.
Seems like it is probably the shift cable/cables.  Hopefully just jumped off their home & not snapped.
Great timing................ not
For now she is safely in the warehouse at work.  Everyone on hols, so she is not in the way.
SCZ has lent me his ADUB for now...................... again...................... Thank you.

Anyone happen to have shift cables to suit, if I need them?  1990 NA.  Part numbers 33821-17060 / 33822-17030.
One of these part numbers changed with the 1993 revision, so not sure if they are compatible. (33821-17080)

She's MY project of a different kind.

Most of you think "Ok, I'll renew this or that, etc".  You have another car for when the MR2 is out of action.
My way of doing it is usually driving, driving, then she stops all of a sudden.  I think oh oops, I should have had that changed when we did the other thing.  aahhh well............ can't be too much more to break.................

Non-car friends don't understand.  But I've still spent less than if I'd got a loan & purchased something new 6 years ago.

That's what happens when you have an old car. It doesn't matter what type car it is! You are lucky that you don't have an old Italian car!!! 😁

Shaz, I've got some shift cables in the for sale section. I remember I did a bunch of reading a while ago on turbo/NA cables and their compatibility but can't remember the outcome haha and I have to double check what cables I have anyway. If you do end up needing them you can try them out and if they're good we can sort a price.

Sorry to see you are having trouble with your car at the xmas period. Hopefully it will be ok very soon.

Thanks MG_MR2.  I'll keep that in mind

Hoping the cable has just jumped off it's home base & not snapped.  Someone knowledgeable on the Sdubs is having a look for me on 3rd Jan.

NA and turbo shifter cables are different lengths. If you can't find genuine cables, I believe MR2heaven have adjustable shifter cables that will suit both models. Hopefully it's just a simple fix!

Thanks Lumix, yes friends have said that NA & Turbo are different.  As much as I'd like to go with New, I think with price & time I'll go with used, but will keep MR2 heaven in my list for if I need anything else.
Still hoping that when Whitchy has a look, we find that it has just dislodged itself.  But someone local has a set suitable for an NA if I need one.

Shaz, if you need to replace a broken cable, the 2 NA cables are marked with either a green or a white band at the gear stick end.  (Turbo cables have red and blue bands)

You may only need to replace one, because the one most likely to break is the lower one at the transmission end, since it flexes the most.

That one is activated when the gear stick is moved forward and back, and it will have a green band.

BTW, I have a couple of informative articles on the subject of SW20 cables and why they break.  Just PM me if you want copies.

Thanks for that info.   I'm sure Whitchy will be able to diagnose it quickly.
