While im going thru collecting the bits to go from S54 to E153 there are a lot of other items that are different.
Gear box
drive shafts
hubs
drive shaft mount
ABS , LSD Yes/No
rear backing plate
Clutch
Flywheel
clutch slave
starter
gear shifter cable
engine mount
bolts
mechanical speedo or electronic
clutch pedal
 
So i hope you have taken all that into consideration. As the final price could be more than expected. It would be great for you if you could get all of those parts from members if they are in good condition, if not it will be costly.

Yup, hence why the package I have there is actually great for someone converting.
 
Its got pretty much everything other than the hubs.

there is an article on E code gearboxes on our web site.
most owners seem to have given up buying used early turbo boxes, as the syncros are so troublesome. The days of "cheap low km imports" are long gone... these are now mostly old and tired cars. remember, the syncros could be shot in as little as 50,000km in the early box
If you cant afford to rebuild one properly. then buy the latest lowest km box you can and jsut hope its OK. The later double syncro boxes cost about double in parts prices to rebuild due to syncro costs

Good info Terry.  Regarding the late model boxes, last time I had to buy synchros for one they came as part of a kit which contained random other parts.  Like, I think one kit included a reverse gear and the other kit included a hub sleeve.  This seems to be what runs the costs up - the synchronizer assemblies alone aren't available for purchase (correct me if I am wrong).  I think I had about $500 just into doing synchros for 2 gears in parts.  Then add bearings etc etc and it starts getting quite pricey.

I know this thread hasn't had a bit of action in a while, but I was wondering if there were any of the conversion kits available like the one pictured earlier. I'm new to mr2's and don't know all the fine details of what is needed. My car has been converted from NA to a 1mz and Has an aftermarket flywheel and clutch, just saying it incase it helps. I've blown the old gearbox and now want to upgrade to a turbo spec LSD box. I would be much happier if i could by all the parts in kit form.
