1.20 is a good time for your first time out. You will only get quicker!

2l sports sedan record is 1:39 with an Rx7 but those cars so far divorced from the original who knows what weight, power or tyres its got? http://www.piarc.com.au/files/PHILLIP%20ISLAND%20LAP%20RECORDS.pdf

As for what an MR2 can do, how much do you want to spend?

There was an old thread here that had some laptimes but its probably disapeared into the ether by now.

I'll put my lack of wikkid wheelman skills out there.

87 AW11supercharged targa.
1100kg + fatbum driver.
87 rwkillerwasps.
Toyo RA1s
no class.

2:05 PI (handtimed)
1:39.7 Sandown

Thanks for the feedback Rob.
As far as how to spend, all the feedback gives an idea of what the MR2 is capable of in what would be considered a level 1,2,3 or 4 state of tune. From what I can see so far no one is going crazy with their expenditure and providing very good results for what they are putting into their cars. I have seen people spend $60+ on Silvia's,GTR's to get similar results to what Im seeing on the thread .Im sure the driving experience will also be more lively than the a 4wd. So its all good news.

I have a look around for the lap time thread too.

merry xmas all

I expect that once you seam weld the front end of the car plus a full bonded cage you will find more time in the car. I excpect it will sort out the front end issues that people seem to have. The word from the chassis specialist who set up the BAthurst 24hr/GTP MR2's stated they suffered from understeer. They couldnt seam weld the car but he stated if someone was to build one now, this would be near the top of the list.
Has anyone seam welded and or bond roll caged the car to give some feedback on the improvements to the handling?

Have not had any front end issues only reason for that would be a lack of adjustment on the standard setup from what I can gather. With the coilovers and 4deg neg camber on the front + 5 mm castor and 2 deg toe out had no problem with under steer at wakefield or eastern creek. Main issue is with the rear as it becomes twitchy at high speed as if it wants to step out and also out of cnr's not having a lsd it likes fry the inside. My car will be going to these guy's in Jan for a complete setup and test day to see if any improvement.

I had the front end comment mixed up with someone else. I checked the link you provided and didnt stop reading until I had read everything on the site. What a great read.Thankyou for the link.
It will be the beat value for money you will spend on your car(in my opinion) for real performance gains to any car on road or track. After I have finished the chassis it will be my first port of call. Suspension tuning.

Im sure your issues with the car being nervous in high speed corners will be overcome after your car has been returned from the suspension tuners.

cheers

Steve

Sounds like a competitive package with up to 280kw.
What brakes are you running and are you runnning brake bias?
Have you added chassis braces?
Are you planning on racing the car?
It can be run in super TT on the 1st of Feb at Wakefield Park along with the Wakefield 300 in November. Im looking at organising a 300km race for EC in 2009. You car will also be eligible for this event.

Hi mate and happy new year to all
Brakes on the car are 330mm G4 8 piston calipers with Cryoed Disc's up front and 280mm standard on the rear Yes have now fitted a brake bias as the fronts were locking up. Car is being setup for Dutton Rallies and super sprints around NSW with a view to doing Mt Buller hill climb and Drive Bathurst in late November. As for the wakefield 300 may be a starter as steve in the red rx7 Dared me to do it last Year but car was not ready and as i would like it.
Power is the easy part of the whole equation but it must be done reliably which is why we need to gather Data. Turbo is the same as is used by the rally team TRD a ct26 which spools up to full boost at 3500rpm and keeps producing till 7800rpm + and makes the whole package very responsive at 18psi. cams and headwork have been done to 1 head and a standard head with just polish will be used for Mt Buller hill climb if it is required to be standard. Am investigating Carbon doors and and lexan if anyone is interested in a group buy
