You dont really need 2nd at Wakefield or EC for that matter. Sorry to hear about the gearbox/diff issue. Preped motorsport can sort it out for you at a honest price and quality work.

i know 1.10 is a bit optimistic but some good tyres should knock off a least 2 seconds and i know three areas on the track i can improve upon. the first kink and corner. the left hander before the top box and the back straight.

if i get all of those right i should be loosing about 1 second on the first corner. 2 seconds on the second section and about 1.5 seconds on the third section.

Vinny the best thing you could do is spend a day with Mike Navybox/race specialist. Its the best $500 you will ever spend on your car and yourself. A 70sec lap in your car is quite achievable on reasonable tyres after a day with Mike.
Mike runs the same tyres I have on my car but I have not run these tyres at Wakefield but to get a 64sec lap is a sign of what a brilliant pilot he is.
Great to see your out there having a go but you still need to find over a second to beat my ST162/120hp time!!

One more thing Vinny, if you need a diff I have a Gen 2 at home you can have for $100.

cheers

yeah i got a s54 box. im currently working out what to do.

i can replace the diff and use the camry final drive for longer gear ratios. or i can extend the redline of my car and keep the same drives in my gearbox.

if i do both im worried my ratios will be too long. not too sure which way to go.

Ill find that second b24!! haha, once i get some non bald and decent tyres i reckon thats 1 second there. then knock off a few more with some better driving.

btw b24? have you ever done the mike navybox training? i was sorely tempted to book it in with him on tuesday but its tough for me to get a day off work.

he seems quite genuine and his got the tropheys to show for it too!

I have not done the training but Im prepared to 'do it'in the future. We could organise for both of us although I mentioned to people the other night that we should organise a day for the MR2 owners day at Wakefield where Mike provides a day of driver training for us.
Either way it should be on your to do list.
I drove in the Wakefield 300 a few years ago, managing 8th outright from 23 cars. In the two days leading up to the race, the onsite test driver at the time walked me through the gearing and a few other notes. It did help along with a 60 lap stint, rain and dealing with V8 supercars flying past, but a day with Mike would be a more detailed approach in a car he knows well.

Do you have any incar footage?

Also watch some incar footage of drivers at Wakefield. Focus on actual race footage as these guys know the track very well and are very smooth drivers.

Yeah i was looking at the telemetry on my phone. i got this cool program called chronoGPS that tracks my speed and sectioned times and entry exit speeds etc etc. mike had a look too and he said i should be flat out on the corner going up to the box. where ive been braking on that one to prepare for the next two corners for a higher exit speed.

first corner i still need to be flat out and braking less into the second corner which should be a much higher speed corner according to mike.

and the last corner. the back straight i should be achieving the same top speed as i do on the main straight where i am not even getting close and thats where i know i can get the extra seconds.

He said ive been doing it right by taking the fishhook slow so i can line myself up for a flat out corner on the back sweep but he said im not getting enough exit speed out of the fishhook for some reason but the line im taking is right. (after talking to you guys here i figured because im using second gear)

with all those bits im confident with better tyres i can get it down to 1.10 or at least 1.12.

ive ordered my earls oil cooler and its in the mail now from the US. once i get that installed

That's a pretty reasonable goal. Andrew Handmer (Dumhed) set 1:12's in his Natro S13 while running on Nankang NS2's.

So with some good treads and a nice line, you should be able to pull it off.
