Clutch issues

Hi All
Does anyone have any advice on the cause of the following problem, I drove to work today and the effective point of the clutch slowly deteriorated to the point where I was unable to shift into any gear from neutral at the lights. Pumping the clutch in neutral seemed to restore function. I made it to a car park but haven't had a chance to inspect anything. Any suggestions about what to look for or the possible base cause of the problem is much appreciated.

As above. Check fluid level firstly. Sounds like air in the system or a leak.

When bleeding the most effective way is to gently pressurise the reservoir to bleed.

Apart from the advice already given.
How long since the fluid was changed?
Does it look black in the reservoir? If so it needs changing.
 
Google up 'hygroscopic'

I find bleeding is easy if you use a suction pump, but you need to be sure you don't run the tiny reservoir dry. 

I had similar symptons before and it turned out to be a slave cylinder leaking internally
