ACC voltage cut out when cranking/engine start?

I noticed after installing my boost gauge that when cranking the engine, the ACC volts drops out. Is that normal?Because my boost gauge (wired to the clock) is one of those where it sweeps and beeps, once is enough but a second time after cranking can get annoying. Though it does explain why my head..

Fuel Pump Wiring & Control System Modifications

I am planning to upgrade my pump to the walbro 450 lph. On inspection the wiring and heat shrink to the cradle and pump looks in good condition, not brittle or anything. From reading posts over the years I see people always recommending to upgrade the wiring as well. Why is this? Is it really needed..
