Hi all,

I'm installing my new W2A setup before I put the new motor in and wanted some opinions on mounting the core,

I have seen they are mostly mounted on the passenger side and not the drivers side, I guess the main advantage is less heat from the exhaust manifold, what do you think?

Also I have the bosch cobra water pump, im guessing I would need a temp / pump controller or can it be wired up to a relay for the pump to run once the engine is started or will this just over work the pump?

Cheers.

yeah you are right, keeps it away from the heat of the exhaust, and I think you have a side feed manifold don't you? that would mean short intake piping as an advantage too...

I have the same pump as you, and I have just wired it up to run all the time when the engine is running, they arent too expensive if they burn out, and I kept mine in an easily accessible place...

I have the JUN replica manifold so center feed, only reason I didnt want to mount the core on the drives side is I have a custom alloy airbox that I can't use any more, ahh **** happens.

Great I would prefer to run my pump full time also, less heat soak.

I hooked my pump up to a 3 way switch one is constantly on, off and the last one is to the ignition

The only real downside to I see to running pump 100% is extra wear, but as beagle says they're not too expensive. Higher flow rates will give you better cooling, and the power draw is probably insignificant.
I'm mounting mine near the passenger side corner, but I have a side feed intake manifold and the cooler has 90 degree outlets so it makes a really nice pathway.
You can always make heat shields to protect the cooler, and direct airflow. I'd worry about getting your intake path right, then worry about heat.

Here is what I did if you want some ideas:

Made a frame for the cooler and bolted it through the chassis. Enabled me to tilt the cooler slightly also and gave me a bit more room.
