Gatesys SW20
looks like the same guy from the track day at wakefield in january in the evo,
i would have to say regardless of your mate or not, he did alot of silly things on the track, cut the iside down on me mid corner i took it wide to let him through the inside and he came through semi sideways and cut down my side, now it was my first time on a track i gave him plenty of room, but yet, accidents could occur and i think the way he passed me was beyond aggressive, it was not needed, and the driving instructor at the track that day said the same thing, he was novice at best, was far to aggresive and took to many risks and had bad lines to be a 'good' driver.

after looking at that video, it is obvious that the camera car is mostly at fault. however, the evo driver should have used his mirrors and let him through or taken that corner wider, it seemed to me that he cut in a bit harder to block the attempt of the camera car to overtake him, but wasnt quick enough so got nailed in the process,
but honestly, these things happen and you take the risk when going on the track.
but
like others have said both need some instruction and more track time, and to be a little more wary of others and putting themselves in other drivers shoes.

The guy with the camera is at fault 100%.
I raced at Winton and no-one had the 'disrespect' to attempt a move like that on that corner.
The corner is uphill with the turn-in at the crest which dives into the apex then down the hill. It is a great corner requiring a lot of commitment and concentration to make the corner. Vision is restricted due to the crest and concentration required to find the blind(ish) apex after the crest. The car has a weight transfer on turn-in to the corner causing over-steer(certainly in my car) which again requires utmost concentration.
The EVO was also clearly committed to the corner with any chance of seeing the 'dive bomber' obstructed by the two cars it was passing.
It really is a no-no. The 'camera' driver needs to learn Gran Turismo is different to real world driving. This looks like something you would do on GT5! The guy who crashed into the side the car should pay for damages.

After watching a few more times, he is a effing idiot. If he didn't take out the EVO he would have taken out the EVO or someone else in the near future.

I feel bad for the guys EVO that got hit by the camera car. Who expects a dumbass move like that on a  sprint day.
Then again I have seen some pretty stupid stuff on club days. too many hero's hitting the track.
The camera car didn't even try to avoid hitting him, he didn't even turn for the grass, just speared straight into him. Should be penalties in place for something like that, totally take his CAMS license for a year or so.

@Gatesys - it's a different guy. The EVO driver that was at Wakefield is VERY experienced and drives perfect lines. I can understand how it would have been a bit daunting for you being on the track for the first time. I felt bad myself for being a bit too aggressive in my GT4 with some of the slower drivers at that event. I guess it didn't show as much due to my car not being as super fast as the EVO. What we do on track days in nowhere near what the top guys do. They literally drive door to door.
Anyway - back on topic. The camera car in that video is definitely in another league of aggressiveness. More like stupidity. He obviously hasn't ever driven a normal slow car, as he thinks he has a super car and can carve people up at will. He needs to be put into a slower car for a while so he can learn how to drive proper lines and also the rules of racing.

I'd disagree about the perfect lines bit, evo bombed me on turn 4 pretty harshly, then later in the afternoon nearly made contact on the same corner in a crazy move and ended up going on the inside of the ripple strip in the process.
There wasn't much in it and I was pretty 'unhappy' with how the 'experienced' driver did that to novices.

Sure, you put a bit of pressure on in your car but overtook when appropriate.

I'll stand corrected on racing etiquette for the video above, camera car overcooked it but did try to avoid in the end but came in way too fast.

I am organising someone to oversee driver etiquette(clerk of the course) at MTC 2014 so these incidents will be avoided. They will be in the control tower watching everything that happens. People will be spoken to for dangerous behavior. If they persist, they will be asked to leave.
If people do practice on simulators, they must drive as if they are in their car they maintain and pay for it running costs. At least they will then instill 'habits' of not performing GT5 maneuvers.
You really have to have these in your list of mental prep before entering the circuit with others:
  • Understand your car.Tyres, brakes, handling.
  • Be aware and honest of your skill level. Get lessons/time with a driving instructor.
  • Understand the nature of the track.
  • Awareness of the condition of the track.
  • Take time to get the car up to its operating range before you push.
  • Be courteous while driving whether you are being passed or passing people.
  • If the organiser says 'no passing in corners', respect the rules(*at MTC only circuit class cars can pass in corners. It is in the reg's)
There are more, but that should help reduce chances of accidents.
