Damn that's some dodgy work by the rebuilders, paid them a friendly visit yet?

No I havent and I dont think I will. The engine is outside of its warranty now and trying to get any form of compensation out of them would result in going to court with a nice court fee to follow; which would out weigh the cost of the rebuild. All I can do is keep forking out the dosh

Wow! Its been a while since Ive updated this. Unfortunately I had lost a lot of motivation on both cars after constant disappointment but Im back for more.

Good news is that the G-Limited has been back on road and running perfect for a couple months now. I ended up giving it to MRC to problem solve as I was time poor. They ended up finding that the engine builders put a different crank sprocket on which had one tooth less than it should of had. Unfortunately there wasn't enough adjustment in the distributor to get the engine under stable control where I then found quite a few toasted capacitors inside the ECU which also probably wasn't helping the situation either. So I decided to grab the PnP 3SGTE Adaptronic ECU and have it control the timing which has done nothing but wonders as the engine has never run so smooth including back to when I first bought it, though it has lost a KW on the dyno compared to the stock ECU.

As for the yellow beast, well nothing has happened since a severe boost leak or possible worn out turbo which occurred back in Feb. Since then I have tackled all areas of where a boost leak could be except one which requires an engine drop. I am still unsure what the issue is but with any luck it will be solved over the next couple of months. So since about April I have been agonising over what course of action to take to solve the issue. The first requires me to potentially take the engine out twice if its not a boost leak on the bottom of the IC but is the cheapest option. The second option only requires the engine to come out once but isn't cheap at all.

After much thought and some reassuring from some friends who own Silvias. Option two was chosen and this is the result so far...

Stay tuned...

Lets just say I wouldn't be contacting BM Higginbottom in Belmore if I required a rebuild next week.

I'm certainly getting excited to say the least!
Planning on mocking the turbo and lines up this weekend. Though Im still undecided on a clutch. I'm thinking of contacting NPC to see what they recommend for the 270-280kw range.

"The tensioner had let loose like I thought. But there was a lot more than met the eye. Turns out that the correct tensioner bearing assembly was not put back on the engine when rebuilt. It was -0.5mm out compared to stock and with an incorrect washer behind it meant that it was out another -0.5mm. Those coupled with the bearing itself having 1mm of movement in it bringing the total to 2mm out. It now makes sense why the belt kept walking and wearing as a result."

I just remembered this post on MR2OC that might be of interest:
