I need to move the alternator on my 3SGTE to make room for other items so i am taking the opportunity to replace it with something lighter (i hope!)

I have power steering so have the larger alternator (p/s is staying)

I would love to know also, ill see what i can find out, but all alternators would be heavy, without going down from the 100A to an 80 or 60 ect, not sure you would find one much lighter?
Theres not a lot of un necessary weight on the factory one i guess, its aluminium body, cant take alot of weight off the rotor, windings ect i guess.

There are lighter ones out there tho, good ones like Bosch Motorsport ones but very $$

Obviously the factory bracket is way to heavy tho, so i have a light weight aluminium one, i assume you will be making a new bracket  tho.

You can get a light weight pulley, i was going to get one made by Ross when they make me a balancer, if your interested let me know.

Just an fyi, Racerx in the US is currently having a sale and has reduced the price of the lightweight alt bracket he makes. I think its $159.95 USD plus postage.

Slight thread deviation...

Are there alternators for 3s that put out more than 100a?

I'm looking at put a group of largish spots on the front of my turbo.

Yeah Brendan there is not many options considering what the item is/does. I did find this site interesting as it lists weights of some different alternators:- http://www.brise.co.uk/alternators.html

Racer x bracket is fine for most, but i can make something cheaper (plus i no longer will be mounting it there)

Dudeman, i think you will have better luck changing the power lead to a larger item than going to a 120A or higher alternator. Power leads in japanese cars are tiny in comparison to their European brothers and therefore can do with a upgrade.

Does anyone have a stock 100Amp alternator lying around they can weigh for comparison?

Or vac pump?

I tried to weigh mine travis, but my only accurate scale goes up to 5kg, its over that, other scales i wont be able to tell if its 5 or 15kg.

Due to not only higher RPM on my motor but also will be higher RPM much more often i will be running a slightly over sized pulley.

I think you were saying something about power steer delete brendan?  I don't see why you couldn't get away with 60-70a alternator without power steer, particularly if it is a track car.
