Most people have had smaller cars their whole driving lives, I for the most part have not....
1970 Mazda R100 - was joint owner with a mate in high school, we got our CAM's licences and did a bunch of hillclimb and motorkhana events. was a 10A rotary, with extended fuel bowls to stop fuel surge when getting chucked around, a second swaybar fitted to the front and a welded diff. Got passed on to our mates younger brother.
1973 XB fairmont coupe - bought this before i had my licence also, most of my school job money went into this thing. Mates dad retrimmed the interior in bone vinyl for me, sanded it back and sprayed it devil red, and the car came with convo wheels, had a reverse pattern c4 trans in it, a detroit locker, no power steering and a mild 302. Used to have to lift myself out of the seat to turn the wheel when parking.
1977 Valiant Charger - Bit off more than i could chew with this one. had some very rare parts in it, and had stripped it down to completely restore the car, but excess chassis rust and years of bodgey repairs put and end to this one as an apprentice mechanic, and was parted out after 6 months. Wish i had kept onto this car.
1992 Vp Calais - The token nugget box whilst i was an apprentice mechanic. This poor car copped a hiding and a half. Over my apprenticeship this car receive a stroker (4.2l v6) cam, headwork, vt brakes, self built manualised auto, tightened diff, complete suspension overhaul. Car was in an accident (my fault) and was parted out and sold.
1988 MR2 - Still own, bought it off an apprentice mechanic, and as such spent the first few years fixing things that were broken and not fixed properly. Still sorting through the car, and trying to develop a proper plan of attack for the car, have many parts waiting in the wings for this car, but no time to work on it, plus it serves as my daily.
