Hi Ash, The Lancia Stratos was one of the great rally cars, Lancia are rumoured to be making a 2011 version. I have seen photos of the one they built for the German Billionaire, with the Ferrari V8, I think it cost him 2.5 M Euro's. For anyone to question the greatness of the Startos just shows he knows nothing of great sports cars! I will post some details on the Stratos under a different thread as I know a bloke who has one & I get to see it from time to time, (it is not Yellow though) less than 1000 were ever made.
They are a true icon of automotive design & performance!

As for the MR2 nationals, every two years we get together in a different state. The first MR2 Nationals were held in Canberra, ACT in 2007 organised by the Canberra ACT MR2 club. The next one was held at Bathurst, NSW Oct/Nov 2009, organised by the NSW MR2 club. The Victorian club is organising the next national get together, some of the members are keen to take a group of MR2's over on the ferry for a few days to enjoy the great roads & scenery in your state.

I have been to both the MR2 Nationals & will be at the next one in Victoria. If you have an MR2 & are interested in meeting with other people with similar interests I recommend you don't miss it.

I guess about the closest I'll get to driving a real lancia is gran turismo lol but they are a fantastically quick car especially for it's era, would love to drive one. yeah would be good to go to the nationals but probably won't get to make it to vic however if you guys are coming down to tas would be keen to meet up for sure

Factory Absinth Yellow - 568-15949..! :P

The Pontiac GTO had two doors, was also available as a soft top & had performance far superior to any four door sedan of the time. Handling wasn't great but this shortcoming was outweighed by the performance. The first, 1964 GTO, equipped with Pontiac's 389 cubic inch engine & four-speed, 325-hp engine, rocketed from zero to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds and blasted through the quarter-mile in 15.8 seconds at 93 mph. Ronny & The Daytona's had a great song "Little GTO", it was even done by the Beach Boys, it was a huge hit in 1964. I had the pleasure & fun of driving many miles in a 1965 Pontiac GTO back in the mid 60's in California. I considered it a great sports car at the time! I also drove a Pontiac Tempest, the car the GTO was based on, there was no comparison, they were like chalk & cheese, the Tempest was best forgotten. Long live the 60's Pontiac GTO!

Now for something more contemporary. The Mitsubishi 3000 GT or as it was called, the Mitsubishi GTO in Japan & the Dodge Stealth in the USA. V6 DOHC 24v twin-turbo up to 238 kW, 6-speed manual ('94–'01)four-wheel drive.

Apal is a small scale automobile company originally from Belgium. It is now based in Germany.

The Apal 1200 Saloon was an attractive car based on Volkswagen beetle floorplan. It had a thrust-forward nose with a divided front bumper and a well-sloped curved one-piece windshield. The rear-mounted engine was air-cooled, with cooling air exhausting thru a grille in the rounded tail, which also sported a divided rear bumper.From 1961 up to 1965 approximately 150 Apal Coupé's were sold, among which about 30 with real Porsche-mechanicals.

These Coupé's, built on a VW-pan, were purebred racers and feared competitors on the race-circuits.


The most successful model was called the Apal Speedster and is a replica of the Porsche 356 model, built on a VW Beetle floorplan. Altogether 700 were completed between 1981 and 1994.

The company's last model, named the Apal Sport One, based on the Pontiac Fiero, appeared in 1992.

Ruf CTR "Yellowbird" based on the Porsche 911, Introduced in 1987.

Developing 469 hp (350 kW) and 408 lb·ft (553 N·m) of torque and weighing in it at only 2,580 pounds (1,170 kg), the CTR provided stellar performance, with a 0-60 mph time of around 3.7 seconds and a top speed in excess of 200 miles per hour (320 km/h). Although a small group of vehicles such as the Ferrari F40 & Testarossa, the Porsche 959 & Lamborghini Countach were faster to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h), the Yellowbird could outperform all competition when it came to top speed, topping out at 211 miles per hour (340 km/h), a top speed that made it the fastest sports car in the world at the time of its release!

The car received its nickname, "Yellowbird", during testing by Road & Track magazine, whose staffers noted the contrast created by its yellow paintwork against the overcast skies on the day of their photo shoot.

It was also a highly competent track vehicle, and for several years the CTR held the lap record at the Nurburgring.
