ahh cools :) mmm

I'm fairly sure my car is running rich, maybe I do have an o2 sensor - will add testing that to my list  of to-do's.
Looking at intercoolers again (I'm all over the place on if I want to spend more money or not :P) any suggestions on aftermarket ic fans? does the stock IC have a fan (I'm fairly sure it does).

I run a Davies Craig 9" (I think) thermo. It can be set up to either push or pull, but in this application you'd want it to pull. You can use the stock fan, but its not as efficient as new aftermarket ones these days. SPAL also make good thermo fans to suit. Ideally you'd want it setup to turn on with a boost trigger.

Heres mine

The o2 sensor is located on the top of the dump pipe and is clearly visible when looking from the top of the engine bay around where the oil dipstick is . The website on the bottom is probably the catalytic converter overheat warning sensor probe.you dont ned it if thats what it is. With the cooler a second hand ebay special or branded surf might be the way to go DB8 on the forums had some coolers for sale not long ago for a good price. The fan and shroud is absolutely neccessary if your getting an aftermarket cooler.your eating your time otherwise.

thanks guys - I think I was just a dipstick :) (happens quite regularly)

googled the fan - not too bad at $100, but would probably need a shroud to match too.

I'll have a look around at what there is first I think. I've got enough to do now that I should be fairly busy over the weekend. :) I need to gauge the quality of my engine first before I start doing engine mods I think :) (and sell the supra :P)

I think it was ~$90 from Sprint auto (SA).
Totenkopf on here sold me the blockoff shroud too.

yeah the lower hole is for the cat temp sensor which is not needed.

I dont agree with the fan being turned on by a boost trigger. You want the fan on even when your stopped to try help with heat soak.
Unless you mean once it turns on from when its triggered by the boost sensor its stays on untill you turn the car off.
If you battery and alternator or working ok it wont have a problem running the whole time.

Heat soaked from the engine ie. externally? or heat soaked internally due to boost?
I've had the fan running 100% of the time and also just had it connected with the engine bay temp switch (off most of the time), haven't noticed any difference in performance.
Actually it really should be triggered by a speed sensor too, so at say < 20 km/h, fan ON and above that OFF unless its boosting eg. under WOT conditions.

Running all the time is best I've already been through all this crap of how/when to turn the fan on etc. the draw back I now have a flat battery so as dasic1 said make sure battery and charging components are good.

heat soak from engine bay and from heat transfer in cooler itself the cooler will stay warm even after you boost it's that residual heat that you need to get rid of.

Ok the sensor I'm not using is a temp sensor :). Still will test the o2 sensor.

I'm def needing to clean my engine bay.
