Racechrono Pro is great.
Because most phones only have a 1Hz GPS receiver (only gets info once a second), i use a 10Hz (10 times a second) Qstarz Bluetooth Satellite receiver with my phone for more accurate timing info.

Is it better to have external receiver or GPS with Harrys Lap Timer

I use Harry's on my android, and previously on iPhone. Add in a Qstarz receiver for more accuracy than the phone's internal GPS receiver.

Road and Track
all tracks have a timing system and some have simple receivers you can buy or hire and put in the car

talk to the track operator

does Qstarz receiver work well with iphone. harrys Laptimer recommend  DUAL XGPS 160 but its over $230
and Qstarz is about $100.
well i just called some one and i was told that i should go for Qstarz 1000 because it can store memory for 4 days and Qstarz does not.
im confused now about the memory

You don't need memory storage on the receiver if it linked via Bluetooth to your phone - your phone timing app stores all the data.
My $99 Qstarz works great....
