There has been a long discussion on this on Twobrutal. They have even picked up this advert,

Oh it wasn't "Picked up" by twobrutal at all..... knightrous stuck it up there to for some reason (attempt to stir things up I guess) - don't know what you are up to son, but if you are not going to buy something, maybe keep out of it, don't waste other peoples time

fyi I will actually have an ls3 motor here shortly. I'm happy to attach it to the box & take measurements /pics - then its up to a potential buyer - I'm not going to get hold of a sw20 & set it up for you I'm afraid

& just re-reading the above posts - I never said it would fit without any trimming of firewalls etc - however lots of engineers will still allow that sort of thing - I would suggest talking to engineers beforehand (& no I'm not going to do it for you) The project I'm working on will require some chassis mods (irs conversion from solid axle) & my engineer wants to inspect major body mods / cuts & suspension changes.

I posted it on twobrutal for two reasons:
1. The guys over there are pretty crazy on putting any kind of conversion into an MR2. If there was a way to fit it or a process to be worked out for making this kit work, they will do it. Maybe they can get it to fit as you say with some minor work (unlike the previous V8 builds).
2. To try and actually help you sell this package. $5k is a lot of cash to the locals on here, but it's only ~2500GPB  to the Europe guys (while still not cheap) it might be something that works into their budgets for such a conversion.

knightrous,

Sorry, I have taken this the wrong way - I have been stuffed around with this setup by some other "know it all" people & got my hackles up.

I have an ls3 here (dimensionally same as ls1 / ls2 , l98 etc) so I took some pics & dimensions

Ok gearbox to back face of block (inc the adaptor ring) 370mm
back face of block to front of water pump pulley 660mm
total width (inc spark plug leads etc) 600mm
total height 700mm

approx weight of motor & box - 260kg

Open to offers.

Great stuff Toby!
I'm going to go jump in the engine bay of one of my AW11's tonight and see what the prospects are of this fitting.

"back face of block to front of water pump pulley 660mm"
If Ive read this correctly this will be shorter with the electric pump? do you know by how much?

To be honest I don't know - looking at a pic of a ewp & the holden water pump, it could quite easily be 60mm or more!! - I suggest you contact one of the sellers of the ewp's (ebay etc) & they may be able to tell you, or at least give you the thickness of their pump, so we can work it out from there.

Just checked out my AW11 shell.
There is around 900mm* between the chassis rails an about 880mm* between the strut towers.
These could be massaged a bit further with a bit of hammer work for another 10mm - 20mm.
Overall though, it looks like 1030mm won't fit without chopping the towers and chassis up :(

Can someone measure up an SW20?

* This leaves a small amount of wriggle room for motor movement and alignment. Anything bigger then this will result in the package hitting the body during driving

890mm between rails. All other measurements seem good.

Just need to find a cheap shell to make a track hack

From memory the outer edge of the gearbox sits under the chassis rail on the mr2 (I had a couple of aw11's)

How cheap is cheap?
there is 2 on gumtree for $3500 & another 2 for $4000. Any of them you could prob pull down $1k on those prices - ie auto gen1 sw20 hardtop not exactly sought after!! & you could prob offolad about $1k in parts out of it making a track car (& there's a set of tein coilovers for $250!)

price drop on conversion - now $4500!
