I actually agree with this decision. Decreasing the fine and increasing the demerit points is much more valid imo. A lot of ppl don't care about the fine these days as they just pay the $ and keep driving. At least this way they might 2nd guess it when they start getting closer to losing their licence a lot quicker. And if anything it will probably mean less revenue for the gov.

Fantastic move by the SA government.
Lose your license and your screwed.... here... speed... and you'll lose it faster. Hows that feel?

an equivalent speeding fine for <15kph is $110 in the NT :P and one point.

losing 2 points for <10 km/h over the limit would feel like a raping to me zmit. NO ONE can say they haven't been at least 5 or so km/h over the limit down hills etc.

Hi Total agree with this comment as posted:
If you believe all they say about speeding you really are in the dark. To see the light, simply take a trip to Europe to see how the rest of the world drives then you will see how big of a ride we are being taken on. The government have failed with everything they touch with roads and driver training at the top of the list. I wonder how many accidents are caused by fatigue from staring at the speedo all day on a long trip instead of actually driving? Most people are fined when they actually stop looking at the speedo for two minutes. More often than not, while watching the road while driving down a hill at which point a police vehicle is hiding in the bushes ready to catch you out. Its unAustralian and completely out of touch with the rest of the world.

I Don't for a minute believe what the government says - its total all about revenue & revenue only.... Its not "Speed Kills", sure its a contributing factor no doubt, but more about "Inexperience" - I find it very annoying how they rename their 'Speed Camera' signs to read "Safety Camera" If they were serious about reducing the road toll, they would look out side the square they live in and adopt what other contries have successfully adopted.

I absolutely concur. It's pretty ridiculous when you think about it. The resigning of the cameras to "safety camera" is just an attempt to convince people they're for that reason, and not to fill the coffers *cough*. I think things will continue to go backward before they will go forward, which is pretty sad. Laws are also designed to make it extremely hard to challenge the accuracy and validity of location for these devices too.
