Hi everyone.
Ive got a exhaust leak from here. I normally just re-tighten the bolts and its fine. But its about time i sort it out properly put a new gasket and studs. Is just top piece easy to remove without removing heads, turbos etc. Its a gen 3 3sgte

Let me know what im in for or if i need to take it to a shop

Thanks

You can remove just the turbo assembly (manifold, turbo ect) it should only take an hour or two, and I’d recommend using a multi layer metal manifold gasket when replacing, not a paper one!

Probably a stupid question.is there any adhesive or sealant that needs to be applied with the exhaust gaskets. Or just put the new gasket in and re tighten everything

I didn’t use any sealant or anything when I did mine a month or two ago, I just used a quality gasket, made sure all the studs were strong and not pulling out of the head when tightening (can happen) and torqued them up and it’s been fine

Il be gettin new studs and bolts while im doing it. Also maybe you can help me out. Do those 4 massive bolts need to come out. From other photos not many of the manifolds have them

I’ve honestly never seen a manifold with those bungs on it before, someone correct me if I’m wrong but would they be for an exhaust sensor for each individual cylinder??
I guess they only need to come out if they are in the way of taking a nut off the stud.

Agree, my gen 3 definitely doesn't have those bungs either.

Dont want to complicate things but you might want to consider changing the 2 coolant hoses that are impossible to reach with the turbo in place - affectionately known as the hose from hell and the hose from hell on earth!

Also should all the manifold studs be removed for it to be able to be taken of? There a few vertical ones that are fully out, but the very ends are just spinning. Looks like the middle section of the stud is slightly wider than the ring. And wont pass through like the horizontal studs
