G'day Dave, these look great. Just had a couple of quick questions re the wideband sensor. I've got mechanical knowledge but not a great deal with wideband. Does it replace the 02 sensor or go in as additional sensor? Might be easiest to answer that first as some questions will follow from that
It can replace the stock narrowband oxygen sensor yes, as it has a simulated narrowband output that you can connect to your stock ECU’s oxygen sensor line. Only issue I noticed with this is while the wideband says “Simulated Narrowband Output”, this seems to only be to stop the stock ECU from throwing an error code if the stock sensor isn’t connected.
I tested the narrowband output from the wideband controller and it seems to be a fixed output, my gauge would only read 14.7 or 15.0 AFR I think it was and it didn’t move from that.
Narrowband sensors aren’t great, but they do actually have a small range they read and send back to the ECU, this simulated narrowband output on these wideband controllers would appear to only be to stop the stock ECU throwing error codes once the stock sensor was replaced with the wideband one.
If it was me and I was installing the wideband into a car that has a stock narrowband sensor and stock ECU, I would most likely just install the wideband sensor on top of leaving your stock narrowband in.
If you have more questions, might be easier to chat over the phone, just PM me your phone number and I can give you a call. ;)
