Yes, I can put something together if we have enough AW. The key is keeping all the cars within a set state of overall tune. The problem is the big gap with street and mod street.
You can have a class with mild tune on stock tyre or mild tune on bigger tyre which is easier to source, or use a group buy on a set tyre to save some money. So, if there are 6-10 from all over the place a group buy for 205/225/45/16 tyres or specify a select tyre for a class. It could be a great way to save money and keep and even playing field. Something to think about.
The turnout of the Eastern states in 2015 was a good balance of cars aside from the low number of Spyder but as they are more expensive and not really used too often for trackwork, its understandable.
There are a number of SW and AW who could not make it due to cars still off the road but these owners are expected to make the trip in 2016. There were 16 (I think) cars at the Wednesday night meet after MTC. It would have good to see some of these owners make the trip but I believe all were back at work.
If MTC was run on the Sunday Monday, it would have greater numbers but I don't think we need too many more entrants. More staff is required for more people to enter but it would cost more money and I do not want to push the cost up if possible.
As you guys well know I have huge admiration for your solid approach to no bs, and getting to the track and having some fun. Not to mention the trip to NSW the last few years.
I will be coming over this year which is one NSW car to come and drive your track. Certainly looking forward to the trip.

For an MTC AW11 NA 1.6L class, just run a 205/50R15 control tire size with a 140+ tread rating.
However you still run into the issue of motors control. Smallport and 20V are all engine swaps from non-AW11 cars and do have an advantage over the bigport, so you either have to limit everyone to bigports or open it up to all 4AGE motors regardless of origin (car) and look at other limiting methods.

I think in order to get the numbers if starting a class, just open to any AW11 to begin with, irrelavant of its engine, tires, etc, etc.
If you get the numbers (enough) then look at limiting controls, hp, registered etc.  Just get an AW11 class first.  Just my 2c worth.

I wasn't meaning to have a go at the Eastern states guys (sorry if it came across that way)... i doubt i'd travel to Mallala from NSW myself, knowing how good Wakefield is lol. I'm just proud of the enthusiasm and effort of the SA guys... We can't be bothered having a formal state club (probably too lazy lol), but we still get together to have fun!
I really appreciate the effort you put into MTC for all of us. Thanks Steve!

Hey Mike, i'm also really appreciative of the support that you and the other SA guys have given me since i bought my SDub a year ago. It's a great little MR2 community in SA!

I guess if you wanted to make a 1.6l class you could run something like the evo nats class system and the vic wrx club, where you have a points system, and once you exceed that number of points you move up to the next class. You dont necessarily need a control tyre, have a maximum tyre ie. 205width and 140treadwear rating, so people can run smaller tyres, and dont have to have to buy a set tyre to compete. Point system could work like:
- bigport 0
- smallport +1
- 20v +2
- swaybars +.5 each axle
- headers (other than oem) +1
- catback +1
- caliper change +3
- spring and strut change +2
- coilovers +5
- intake modification +1
- aftermarket bracing +1
- weight reduction +1 - +3 (depending on extent)
- aftermarket ecu or piggyback = up to street 2l

Oil coolers, saftey mods and other things wouldnt count as a point system. Then cap a limit of points allowed before a car is moved up to the next class.

I wouldnt do an aw11 class regardless of mods, as the you could have everything from a stock Na t top to kens widened aw11 turbo with its new owner in the same class.

Or even if i were to come down and run in that class (if i come down i think im meant to be in modified street), with my full interior daily driver with 400+hp, it wouldnt really be fair.

I think the existing stock class worked pretty well, It was hard for me in my SW20 to keep up with Rob in the AW11.
I might have had the power on the straight, but the AW11's cornering ability was amazing with decent tyres on!
The classification of cars was left up to the owners though, which had some cars with bigger wheels/tyres and coilovers
competing with cars in the stock class. Unfortunately Steve had enough to deal with, so scrutineering wasn't reallly possible at the time. Adding a points system for mods would make running the whole show even more difficult. I'd love to help Steve run things on the day, but like everyone else i want to get out on the track! I'm hoping my partner can come along next year to help out...
