SW20R.
Hello all,

Has anyone on the forums used poly motor mounts in their SW20? I have a 97 Bathurst, and I'm looking to change the motor mounts, once and for all. Which ones would you recommend? Powerflex make a few but I'm not sure what diameters are needed as there are multiple options on their website.

The car is making a lot of knocks and rattles from the rear, figured I would just give it an overhaul by going polyurethane everything. The exhaust bracket is also broken, and the exhaust full of holes so I'm looking to get that replaced as well. Would there be any benefit in going with a complete custom system, including exhaust manifold, high flow cats and muffler? Or am I better off just getting a custom catback to replace the rusty section full of holes? I'm not chasing big power gains, I just want it to sound nice and to be efficient.

It has only rattled and clunked since I got the rear suspension upgraded to Koni's and Lovell springs. It was done by Damien at Suspension City, and he seems to know what he's doing. So I'm pretty lost at the moment, was wondering whether that broken exhaust bracket might be the cause.

Regards,
David

Powerflex engine mounts you need are:
PFR76-309 (rears are all the same)
PFR76-311 (73mm front)

Much appreciated mate. How many of each do I need?

Any pearls of wisdom on the exhaust?

Exhaust shop should be able to make up a new set of pipes for relatively cheap.

The OEM exhaust headers were pretty efficient and full stainless, so maybe just fit a catback.
With an NA you won't get power gains with a 'high flow' muffler, but instead most people change the OEM one looking for a good sound.
Unless your current cat is clogged there won't be much to gain by changing it.
If you want to replace it go for a 200 cell metal cat, but a good quality one will be expensive.
A 100 cell cat may be too loud.

If you are content with the stock exhaust note, replace with a second hand stock exhaust. Otherwise as mentioned, have exhaust shop replace pipes etc.
If interested, i have a stock exhaust from my 1999 Bathurst, If you have problems locating one.

Do you know any good ones in Ballarat? Been quoted 1.3k for high flow cat, new pipes and muffler in stainless. Wondering if it might be cheaper getting it done in Melbourne.

Speaking of which, does anyone know a reputable exhaust shop in Melbourne?

I suspected that would be the case in regards to performance, I really am just after the sound. I like the way mine sounds at the moment, it crackles and pops and makes all the right noises. Just happens to have holes, lots of them.

I've always found the guys are Exhaust Bros to be pretty helpful. Also heard good things about west exhausts.

I'm meant to be taking my car the Exhaust Bros to get the pipes done, but haven't bothered yet.

I'd be hesitant to get a muffler from any of them cause it will just be some generic stuff, is your muffler rusted too or just the pipes?

Yeah got the quote done at both Exhaust Bros and West Exhausts for 1.3k. That was with the high flow cat, new pipes, muffler and tips. It's just the pipes that are rusted, guess I could just keep the current muffler so save a bit of cash?
