Hey there!

I've just completed a timing belt replacement on my Gen3 3SGTE and although the timing appears correct, the engine makes a single audible click after I let go of the throttle after revving it up to about 3k rpm.  I had assumed it was the tensioner, but it doesn't rattle like constantly like that's the problem. It does however sound like its coming from behind the timing cover (although I could be being paranoid).  The car is still on stands and does this in neutral so its independent of the suspension and gearbox.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers guys.

Are you running an aftermarket BOV?

Only asked as i had the exact same symptom on my gen 3, was scratching my head for ages until i tracked it down to the bov piston was making the click noise when releasing the accelerator.

Did the sound happen as soon as you released the throttle or did it vary?

It varied, which made it all the harder.
