Quick update... I just did a 200km round trip to Streaky Bay and back. The car ran brilliantly. I'm amazed at the power and responsiveness of the Beams. It's fantastic for a small capacity NA engine. The sound as you wind it out to redline in 3rd gear is addictive. I didn't do that of course, as that would have seen me exceed the speed limit, and i wouldn't go that on a public road :P The engine seems to be still building power when the Rev limiter cuts in.
Unfortunately, when i got home there was a lot of smoke coming from the engine bay and underneath the car. It appears that i have a leaking seal on the transmission where the drivers side axle goes in. I assume i damaged it when i did the changeover. It doesn't leak when the car is stationary, but over a long trip with high speeds up to, ummm, 120kmh, the axle rotation obviously sprayed transmission fluid everywhere. I checked the level of fluid, and don't appear to have lost much, but even a little bit seems to make a mess lol.
Time to order a couple of axle gearbox seals before MTC.
