Start off by tracking down a service/chassis manual for any car that you own. I guess you have an MR2 so here's an online version http://manual.teq.org/

Start off with simple tasks such as replacing brake pads & rotors, changing oil etc. Follow the directions in the service manual carefully and it will step you through the process. Keep referring to the manual each time you need to do something on your car and in a little time you won't need it at all.

You'll need basic tools such as a jack, jackstands, sockets and screwdrivers.

I would not recommend brakes for someone starting out. If you stuff them up death can ensue.

Some general advise that youve no dount heard.

Dont cut corners.

Use a torque wrench.

recheck everything once youve "finished".

Recheck all wheel nuts are tight before driving.

Always use jack stands.

Start off with a basic service imho. Oil, filters( oil, air, fuel) plus, leads, dizzy cap and rotor.

Inspect brakes, learn how to check if pads need replacing and or rotors.

Familiarise yourself with the suspension, check for excessive play.
