yep, simple as that. i had exactly what you describe. 

Well it turned on after i unplugged the ecu. But then as soon as i turned the car of, and tried to turn it back on, again the same thing. I then unplugged the ecu again and tried to turn it on, again no luck. I am guessing this ecu doesnt like the new intercooler and so it doesnt want to start the car. What are my options??

So it ran perfectly after you unplugged the ecu? Should have drove it around a bit and seen if it was ok , did you check for any error codes after?

Yeah it sounded ok. I did this last night at like 12am. I couldnt reverse out, because its a double park garage space and there was a car behind. I dont know the procedure for checking for error codes, apparently its something with bridging with a paper clip, but i dont want to mess around in there.

this is an important tool in diagnostics, make sure you learn how to do it as it comes in handy in fauly detections

well, its only useful if you are getting a check engine light.

You can have fault codes stored/present without a check engine light lit Richard.
Just had this with my car. Code 24 Inlet air temp sensor, doesn't light up the check engine light.

that means that the check engine light has come on at some point.

well I ll check it out tonight, though it would be a steep learning curve as I havent done it before.

No it doesn't.
Only certain faults cause the dash light to light up. All faults get stored as a code though.
