Well just got a new exhaust put on as the previous one was somewhat way too loud and the cat was pretty much destroyed.. previously the car has this strange metallic rattle as the revs dropped below 1500rpm.. it would make the sound everytime it dropped just past that 1500rpm mark... getting the new exhaust i thought might have fixed that also but it would appear not.. taking it back in tomorrow so they can double check all the mounts for the exhaust just incase.
but to me it seems like something else is making the noise.. from ear i cant really tell where its coming from.. it reminds me of rattling tappets but for it to only happen at that particular rpm im not entirely sure.
if anyone has any idea thatd be great.

Its not the exhaust rattling against the bottom of the engine? Or the crossmember? Clearance is pretty tight through there.

If the rattle is a bit "gallopy" i'd suspect a big end. You really want to eliminate all other causes first, as that's a bit of a prick to have a look at!

- Loose exhaust shield on the headers
- Loose crank pulley

problem fixed.. the exhaust dude had a poke around trying to find whatever was vibrating and turned out to be some bracket down near the join from the headers to the exhaust piping. said there was a bolt missing which he replaced and the rattle is now gone.. phew!

well the noise is back.. it randomly came back a few days ago, doing the same thing. no noise below or above 1500rpm but the noise is very loud right on 1500rpm.. i checked the extractor stay and the bolts are still tight... i replaced the headgasket this weekend and all the cams look fine, pretty much everything looked fine that i had removed to do the headgasket also while the timing belt cover was off i had a listen and it really sounds like its coming from there.. there is a bit of slack in the belt.. not enough for it to slip teeth but still more then i would imagine is right... yet the noise sounds metallic rather then a flopping belt.. its got me stuffed to what it could be

definitely check the timing belt. mine was loose and made a rattle sound. tightened and good as gold now.

I reckon its still your exhaust. Check the brackets and make sure one doesn't have a crack through it.
