hi guys my build will be starting roughly on monday. ive gotten some parts but not all. im currently looking for someone/anyone who may have spliced the looming together from a 99 camry with the 90 mr2. Also anyone with tips or trouble from doing the swaps themselves is much appreciated.
i currently have a
90 turbo mr2
99 manual camry
4v6 engine mount

and im searching for a fidanza flywheel... i can only find them on ebay, does anyone know if i can get them anywhere else ?

Hi mate

I've done this swap. It all went to plan until I found the engine I'd bought had a scored main bearing. So I've had it running for about a week before I stripped the whole job apart to rebuild the motor, as a consequence of diagnosing the problem I've taken a 1MZ in/out half a dozen times now . The build thread is in my signature below.

Now I chose an aftermarket ECU to run my engine so the splicing together of the loom was quite different to what you'll be doing, there are people here who have done this or are in the process of doing it and I'm sure you'll hear from them.

Also I've used an S54 gearbox and I assume you'll be using the E153 already in the car so you won't have the problems I had there. You'll need to either reverse the flow of coolant with some creative plumbing or change the position of the temp sensor at the radiator side.

I can offer you some helpful links.

Twosrus sell the flywheel you need at about the best price I ever found http://twosrus.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=22_138
Here's a good build thread that I referred to a few times www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=77116
Twobrutal, it's the best resource for these builds by far http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/

OMG thank you so much for the flywheel site. and how did you go with the looming with the aftermarket ecu ? whats is the process to get the engine running ? do u use the mr2 loom or the camry loom ? and how much did it cost ? my electrician said around 600. I always go on to two brutual and ive read most of the swap write ups, but theyre always different to eachother, the was mount things or relocate things, some have their axles grinded down some dont even mention it.

well first off my 3sgte is coming out on monday.
1mz-fe coming out on tuesday and sent off for a total rebuild
but then i still dunno what to do about my loom... atm in the mr2 i have a greddy emanage piggy back and thats all i know about it...

No worries. The ECU was wired in with the help of some friends with more auto-elec knowledge than me. It took between the three of us at-least 8 hours to do it, including brainstorming. The main problems we (they) had was with splicing into the fusebox and body loom. So I have the MR2 body loom, 1MZ engine loom and the Adaptronic loom all splicing into each other. The details of the job are beyond my comprehension.

I'd suggest sending the whole lot off to an auto elec and prepare to pay a chunk of money to get it done properly. Now I'm not 100% on this but I believe if you're running the stock 1MZ ecu then you'll also need to wire in the immobiliser to the ignition, which I'm told is not a simple task. That's something I got around by going with an aftermarket ECU.

I'm using an S54 transmission with the original driveshafts, only minor grinding required on the 1MZ block to clear a driveshaft.
I'd suggest starting a build thread in the showroom section.

Totally off topic for a moment, but I think there should be a forum law against posting build threads on build threads.  I was only going to take a quick glance at the V6 build thread mentioned above, and then I looked around and some bugger had turned my watch forward 2 hours.  How rude is that?

(It didn't help that hidden within the American build thread was another thread, that linked to another thread . . .)

You fell in to a 'build thread worm hole'

They can upset the space/time continuum. Last time it happened to me i ended up on a german airstrip watching a turbo 1mz conversion.

I find it's time to stop when you come full circle and get linked back to the original thread you started on.

OK, this thread has derailed somewhat, might as well continue the off-track experience a little more.  For those of you with a little time to kill, and in need of a smile, I present for your entertainment and education, the Picolax thread - an oldie but a goodie!

Do NOT drink any sort of beverage whilst reading this.  You have been warned.

I will a proper build thread starting tomorrow when I begin to pull out the motor and looming for both cars.

Any suggestions on aftermarket Ecu ? Or is my Greddy able to do the job ?

MRvirgin used an Adaptronic Select ECU, a good choice IMO ;-)
