Hello all, I bought a 1990 g-limited n/a mr2 earlier this year, I've decided i want to do a turbo conversion and put the 3rd gen 3sgte into it. Ive found a small list of things ill need to do this. If you have any helpful hints to help me that would be great, my dads a mechanic and im an apprentice fitter so we should have enough hands to do this but just small things that I need to know would be awesome, anyways heres the list

Parts needed for a Turbo Conversion:
Engine and all ancillaries
turbo+induction piping
intercooler+fan
ecu + engine loom.
Gearbox and driveshafts+Hubs, (turbo driveshafts are thicker than NA's)
Turbo exhaust.
Turbo Fuel pump.

Cheers, Tim

If you buy a gen3 MR2 half cut you will have almost everything you need. Just buy a new Walbro fuel pump and your set.
Everything will just unbolt and swap over.

I haven't actually done this swap but you will find stacks of info on this forum.

i got my half cut / well 3/4 cut from Prestige Motorsports some years go, they are in Queensland.
There should be many others you can find that will help you bring one over.

for the 3/4 cut i paid about $6.5k from memory but it had almost everything, check my build thread for all the details.
Conversion was AUD GEN3 NA to GEN3 Turbo which is easier than what i've heard. I also had a mechanic do mine as i'm not as gifted as some of the guys here.

You will need to read the other guys build threads here and overseas to get a better undestanding of their conversions and what issues they had encountered.

Hope that helps mate, best decision i have ever made was going turbo.

Thanks man, 6.5k isnt too bad, considering it contains everything you need. the Mr2 i have now is so tidy i would rather do the engine conversion then sell it.

also, benefits of a snorkel? i havnt seen many people running them :\ i rekon they're sweet though

Hey Tim,

I did my own conversion from the NA to Gen 3 3sgte with a halfcut from Japan, and no joke, the hardest thing was wiring up the ecu + loom along with making the cluster work.  Everything else was straight forward.

Everything just went straight over - however, I will say to do the timing belt, water pump, idler bearings before you put it in - so much easier with it out and its good to have a peace of mind.  Check the clutch as well, mine slipped massively so I had to change it after I had it running in the car - bit of a pain.

I have a heap of info on gen 3 swap, PM me your email address and I'll send it through.  I went off swaps on mr2.com, they actually have some great info.
