It is hard to differentiate the cars even road to track cars sometimes.

My AW11 is in a big grey area, it's appears heavily modified, but it's not.

Suspension - The suspension modifications are mainly stiffer springs (3kg/6kg), I'm still using stock replacement Koni Sport shocks and I still run the car at standard suspension heights. No RCA's or fancy replacement suspension links. I run an adjustible sway bar on the front and a recycled SW20 sway bar on the rear.
Engine - The 20V engine conversion looks like a heavy modification on paper, but it's an unopened stock motor with a basic aftermarket ECU. Toan's worked 16V would easily make more power with it's much bigger cams, lightened flywheel, ported head and Autronic ECU.
Brakes - The brakes upgrade is just a combination of stock brakes off bigger cars, ST185 twinpots on the front with non-slotted Corolla 254X25 rotors, SW20 22V calipers rear with a non-slotted AW11 front rotor. It's an improvement in braking power, but mostly in thermal capacity due to larger rotor mass, but it's added 2+kg per corner. It's not like they are $2k worth of Wilwood billet calipers and two piece rotors. The brake pads are cheap $80 TRW Track pads, nothing special like $300+ Ferodo DS2500's or Project Mu HC+
Exterior - The bonnet vent, it's looks like a massive aerodynamic enhancement, but it's just for better cooling (in theory anyway). There are no splitters, under trays or wings.
Interior - I've stripped the carpets out, but still retain factory dash, centre console and door skins. I'm still using a stock recaro bucket seat and seat belt as well.
Weight Reduction - I've ditched the non working AC system, heavy thermo fans, carpets and rear wing. This bring it down to 1060KG, the nearly same weight as a stock JDM 84 AW11a.
The majority of my modifications could be replicated on a tidy stock looking street car and you'd never know.

"Yeah but mine is still a street car, fool "
My point exactly, fool you will be in the "heavy modded" cos it's stripped, half cage etc whereas I've still got things like A/C, stock interior, basically everything save the BEAMS, poly bushes and a soon to be strut/spring combo like Aaron's (semis easily swapped for street tyres). I'd like to enter stock class so I wouldn't have to think about mods but that would be boring :P

Steve I see what you mean by the Circuit class. It wouldn't be viable either if we had mild and wild classes for circuit since there's only like 5? of you lol. Maybe the heavy modded cars should be case by case basis, in total there's only
a handful (fortunately for the scrutineers).
Aaron you'll make it into the mild street on a case by case imo even tho the brake upgrades and weight reduction is debatable. That car would be a perfect candidate for 24 hr LeMons LOL (not dissing the car, but praising the DIYness, respect)

There isnt much diff between modified street and circuit, as said there could be cars more modified then some of the 'circuit' class but as they still have it registered and as a result cant have a roll cage. Yes a race car should have a cage for safety, but it could be stock otherwise, and the cage which is mainly safety, will just make it heavier.
It should be that if you have a modified street car that exceeds the rules it will get bumped up into circuit class.

Few extra things that can be added like as mentioned weight reduction and interior;

Interior
Street - Full factory interior must be retained including complete factory dash, factory seats, door trims, carpet ect
Modified street - As per street class however seats and rails me be replaced with an alternative but the number of seats fitted must be as from factory. steering wheel may be replaced with alternative.
Circuit - Interior is free.

Body
Street - Must retain original panel material and shape
Modified street - Alternative panels are permitted for the front bar, bonnet, side skirts, rear bar, boot and engine lid. The remainder of the vehicle body must remain as original from the manufacturer.
Circuit - Body is free

This is turning into a bit of a minefield, I pity Steve who is trying his best to organise this and keep people happy. Im not saying people are getting shirty but I think people need to get real and respect Steve’s decision on the class allocation.

The alternative will be some form of committee that will make the rules on regulations or an existing standard adopted. This would take the fun out of this event as cars will only be permittied to be modified according to the regulations.

I don’t know what the best solution is but I think this event should be kept at the grass roots level. There will be trade offs for some but common sense should prevail in regard to classifications. If a car has a real or somewhat measurable advantage then that need to be taken into consideration.

Anyone got any views on this?

I don't care which class I'm put in. I just want to thrash the shiz out of my car on the track. I'd be happy if I was the only one there.
Forget about classes guys. It doesn't matter.
If you win a trophy, it will end up in a cupboard and you'll eventually throw it out anyway.
Turn up, have a blast and go home with a smile on your face.

My mate that turned up this year with the EVO9 should have been in the street class though he was put into the modified class. He didn't complain. He was just there for a good time.

Yeh forgot to say I really do appreciate what Mr Godfrey is doing here and I'd like to help out with the website but I'm hopeless at computer software/programming ****. Can def toss fry around some sausages tho
And class or no class we'll all have fun for sure but if it becomes too much trouble with categories then yeh whatever. Everyone here knows I'm the King of Fun on and off track (ala chillies). I didn't realise it would be a handful since I'm not an organiser so my bad
That being said I wouldn't hide my trophies. I don't go around gloating about it but I'm not afraid to be proud my achievements. Also having other MR2s there makes it much more fun tho doesn't it :)

"but common sense should prevail in regard to classifications"
+1 I mentioned earlier about "case by case" basis

If there was any complaints about EVO 9 it was prob us MR2 guys. I believe it's called damnyounewandfasterawd-itis. Don't worry tho, it's a condition that every other car club has. I honestly have no objections to ANY non-MR2 in fact if Mr Lao comes next year I'm sure a few eyebrows will be raised ;)

2013 was a huge success, I had an epic good time and I don't doubt that this year's gonna be the same or better.
end rant

If we want rules for classes, just use the ones CAMS use for Supersprint events

I don't think anyone should whinge if their car is bumped into a circuit class as i said even last time The Pearl is not highly modded but even if it had plates i would agree with it being in the circuit class. It just makes sense?

Who cares though honestly?

Someone bring a welder just incase the turbo falls off again!
