I'm looking at purchasing a Heat Exchanger to go with my Frozen Boost (Type 3) W2A intercooler and wondered what everyone thought about the options below. I have read what a few members have used, but from what I can see there is 22" width available in front of A/C condenser:

1. PWR - I did consider this, but too expensive considering one of the below should be more than sufficient.
2. Ebay - 29.75" x 14" x 2"
   • Has anyone even tried one of these?

3. Frozen Boost (Type 100) - 24" x 12" x 1"
   • Does this fit in front of the A/C condenser with no modifications?
   • Do you need to get the filler cap removed, and how much/who can do this?
   • Being 5" higher than the 118 does it cover/obstruct too much airflow to the A/C condenser?
4. Frozen Boost (Type 118) - 26" x 7" x 2"
   • Does this fit in front of the A/C condenser with no modifications, being 2" thick?

The turbo will be a 3076 or similar, and I'm also looking at using the Davies Craig pump similar to this:

I have the type 100 in mine
I modified the ac condenser so I could have all the cores nice and close to each other. It was a few years ago so I can't remember exactly if it will go straight in but if it does it won't be ideal.
Again I can't remember if the cap has to be removed but I did. I put it in the inter cooler as it was the highest part of my system. Any radiator place should be able to do it or anyone that can weld alloy.
I have not used my air conditioning, still haven't really driven it on the road yet. On the dyno I had no problems with water temp but I do have a 86 degree thermostat instead of the standard 94ish degree one

I have a type 100 in my car as well (aw11), and the issue with it is due to the water outlets being on the same side, it does not use all of the core effectively.

The type 118 would be more effective being of a twin pass design, forcing all of the core to effectively be used, but i can't speak as to how it will fit in the nose of an sw20.

The pump you listed is a davis craig booster pump, which is essentially the same as the bosch cobra pump. They arent a bad pump, but i had 2 of the genuine bosch pumps fail in 2 years, and have since switched to a davis craig ewp80.

Can you move an outlet?

Thanks Dasic1, I did see the cap on your intercooler and thought that was a good setup, didn't realise you swapped it off the HE. How did you end up mounting the HE, with some made up brackets?
I did like the Type 100 better as it has more surface area, and I thought the flow from top to bottom would be better thanks to gravity (although the pump should do its job). I also didn't notice the Type 118 was a twin pass and therefore thought it wasn't as efficient.
My main concerns are whether the 2 types require cutting any of the body or bumper, and if the type 100 would hinder cooling of the radiator as it will cover more of the front area.
Sounds like the 118 is better as it is twin pass and takes up less front area, assuming I can fit a 2" thickness. Moving the inlet to the other side for the 100 is an option, but it's still a single pass so wouldn't the liquid spend less time in the HE, 12" vs 52"?
MCT_MR2, in terms of the EWP80 pump what size pipe did you use, as that pump fits hose 1-1/4" - 2". I am going to use 3/4" hose.

I have the Type 100 and it works fine, been using it for 5 years (without condenser in place), no issues with cooling system HE. I didnt do anything with the fill point on the HE, although I put a separate fill point high in the system. I ause Davies Craig EWP 115, very robust and reliable, there is any alloy version with a tapping which is handy. I use 1" pipework throughout so had the entry/exit to HE modified to suit.

The EWP80 has the 6 bolt flange, so you can buy adapters, Davies Craig list several adapters including this for 3/4 http://daviescraig.com.au/product/alloy-adaptor-19mm-push-on-fitting-part-no-1028/alloy-adaptor-19mm-push-on-fitting-1028
 
Or you can get another flange made up, cnc cut or on a lathe, well lathe means you can put a grove in for a oring were it will mate to the pump, like the davies craig ones do, or you can buy those davies craig ones and modify them, ie cut them up and weld on -12 an fittings ect
 
Funny i saw this thread by accident, im just about to buy couple EWP80 pumps i think (so if i do, ill end up selling my EMS powered pump with custom mounting bracket to suit a mr2 under the front bonnet)

I was going to buy an inline filler and connect it to the inlet of the intercooler, but I do like Dasic1 setup better.
I'm still leaning towards the Type 118 as it is smaller upfront (hopefully easier to fit), and the liquid will spend 4 times as long in the HE (52/12), meaning it will get cooled for longer.....I think.
Is the EWP80 easy enough to mount? I like the neat mounting of ROBKs Johnson pump, but hard to source and pricey for my application. That EMS bracket is a nice neat fit.
 
Where did everyone buy their piping and fittings, anywhere special?
